Welcome to Camp!

Howdy, Campers! We're so excited that you've decided to join us for the third annual AtlasCamp. You returning campers know what a fun time is in store for you!

AtlasCamp alumni have also given us a ton of great feedback the past two years. For example, we learned that attendees wanted to learn more about their fellow campers prior to the event – a way to short-cut the ice-breaking process.

So, what does any good camp counselor do when they need to introduce a bunch of new campers to each other? Games, of course! So welcome to The Great AtlasCamp Game of 2010!

We've divided you randomly into ten teams. You've been given certain tasks that will help you pave the way to an awesome AtlasCamp. Through the game you'll help us spread the word about AtlasCamp, learn something about the other campers, and learn valuable technologies that will quick-start your dev at camp. Tasks are individual, but the points are team-based. Complete these Herculean tasks to win points. Points will help you unlock fabulous prizes, both for your team and for the whole Camp!

The Points

The point system is pretty straightforward. Complete the tasks, earn some points. Every week, we'll tally up the points and publish the point leaders. As you earn points, you'll unlock fabulous prizes. At the end of the event, the team with the most points wins. If your team is lagging behind, you will need to work hard to rally your teammates to complete their tasks. The top 3 teams will win some big prizes!

Instructions

  1. Register for AtlasCamp 2010 (smile)
  2. We will assign you to a team
  3. Earn points by completing quasi-Herculean Tasks.
  4. Points = Prizes
  5. Meet some people, earn some points, have some fun!
  6. What are you waiting for? Get started!

According to the email I'm on the Confluence team, but this page is restricted: Confluence Kelly Green Team

    1. Sep 01, 2010

Sorry about that Dan! It should be fixed now.

  2. Sep 16, 2010

    Campers,

We have just added a 'Herculean Task Status' board to your profile pages. We hope that this will help you stay on task (and help us keep score (smile)) If you would like, please (tick) off the tasks you have already completed. Thank you very much! Look forward to seeing everyone at Camp!

      > stay on task

I like this - "Stay on task campers!" :)

Indeed the campers are a wily bunch!

  3. Sep 28, 2010

There's probably a bug in your sum-points macro (tongue) - I'm pretty sure Crowd team has more points although it doesn't affect much its current standing.

    1. Sep 28, 2010

Yes, I think it's off by a factor of 2. Too high, not too low (wink)

  4. Oct 01, 2010

Hey didnt I earn some points for GreenHopper team this week???

    1. Oct 01, 2010

You definitely did! Just noticed that there was a mistake in the tally, we'll update it asap. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

      1. Oct 01, 2010

        Thank you :)

  5. Oct 01, 2010

I earned 150 points for the Greenhopper team this week as well !  Whose palm are we supposed to grease to get credited ? :-)

    1. Oct 01, 2010

No greasing necessary, but of course, we'd be happy to accept bribes anyway :)

    2. Oct 01, 2010

How can we get the last three GreenHoppers to play?  Any Ideas??

      1. Oct 02, 2010

Not sure, Kristin - as they don't have proflies yet they probably aren't reading these pges, so shaming or bribery via here won't work ;-)  Hopefully as the time for AtlasCamp gets nearer people will start to get more involved.

  6. Oct 04, 2010

Awesome... our team (JIRA studio light blue) managed to loose 400 points this week!

    1. Oct 04, 2010

Sorry about that Chris. When I added 400 points to your team, it was a typo. What is there now is correct.

      1. Oct 04, 2010

And I thought it was something I said!  Fair enough.   :)

  7. Oct 04, 2010

Nah, you just added 400 negative points. I'd talk to Jon "would you care to cross my palm with" Silvers or Jesse.

      LOL :)

  8. Oct 04, 2010

Do we need a new 'AtlasCamp game plugin' to calculate this correctly for us.  This is way too 'manual' :)

  9. Oct 06, 2010

Will see if how Purple team's score looks next week.  Did my best!

    1. Oct 06, 2010

Hey Ajay, great job! Now we got a chance to beat the Bamboo team!

      1. Oct 07, 2010

Damn!  If we beat Bamboo that would mean we won't be at the top anymore http://twitpic.com/2v4yd5 ;)  But hey, it's tough to move our team from the top 3 spots at least (rofl)

  10. Oct 07, 2010

If repeated, perhaps people should be assigned to a group as they create their profile and agree to play?

That would make the distribution of players more even - currently some teams have double the number of active players than others, making the point advantage of that somewhat skewed. After all, we can only apply peer pressure to follow through and earn more points once they actually start playing!

  11. Oct 07, 2010

Good point Dan - some teams also have more total members than others, so hopefully the final scores will be pro-rated depending on team size.

    1. Oct 07, 2010

Well, the teams should actually be the same size (+/-1). But unfortunately, not everyone chose to play. But we designed it that way so you would encourage each other to participate. Getting your teammates involved is part of the game!

      1. Oct 07, 2010

I've no point in encouraging people to get involved, but I've no way of contacting / coercing people who don't even create a profile.

The game is enjoyable - but could be improved (in my opinion) by leaving the people that don't want to play out of it ... or at least having a name-and-shame team that you're part of until you create a profile, at which point you're given a team.

That said – anyone got any email / phone / home addresses for any of these spoil-sports from the Confluence Kelly Green Team?

        1. Oct 07, 2010

Go get 'em! Go Confluence Kelly Green! (Or maybe they'll let US create profiles for those missing in action?)

  12. Oct 07, 2010

The same for our little Bamboo team!

  13. Oct 07, 2010

As we have less than two days to go, can we please get the scores added today/tonight?  Automated scoring mechanism would have been great, not that this isn't fun ;)

Can't wait to see all of you!
