Confluence pages are written in a simple markup language to ensure that there are as few barriers as possible to creating and editing pages. While easy to use, the Confluence markup also permits some complex styling and formatting of pages. Confluence markup is based on a markup language called Textile. Learn more about Textile from textism.com. The best way to learn the markup is just to start editing a page. The Quick Notation Guide is conveniently placed beside every edit screen. As you become more familiar with the markup, you will begin to discover the many possibilities it allows.
