Manually Add Office Add In

Having run the installation MSI, if you cannot see the Send To Confluence button, then follow these steps to manually add the Send To Confluence button:

  1. Select Tools -> Customize
  2. Select the Commands tab
  3. Scroll down to and select Tools in the Categories list
  4. Find COM Add-Ins in the Commands list
  5. Drag COM Add-Ins into your Tools menu (on the application menu bar)
  6. Close the customize dialog box
  7. Select Tools -> COM Add-Ins
  8. Click Add
  9. Navigate to c:\Program Files\Confluence Office Add In\
  10. Select ConfluenceOfficeAddInShim.dll and click OK
  11. Make sure the Check box next to Confluence Office Plugin is selected
  12. Click OK

You should now be able to see the Send To Confluence button!

If you are still unable to see the Send To Confluence button, and you are receiving an error such as "Not Loaded.  A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in," you may need to update your Office 2003 installation with office2003-KB907417-FullFile-ENU.exe which can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1B0BFB35-C252-43CC-8A2A-6A64D6AC4670&displaylang=en

Still Having Problems

Thanks to Nick Murray for this ....

The problem turned out to be insufficient registry permissions. When the add-in installs, it tries to create an entry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ConfluenceOfficeAddinShim.Connect. For some reason, the username I'm logged-in as, didn't have sufficient permissions to access this key once it had been created.

Steps to try to fix this in future.

BEFORE installing the add-in:

  1. Start > Run > Regedit.
  2. Go to My Computer > HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (HKCR for short).
  3. Right-click on HKCR, and select "Permissions..." from the pop-up menu.
  4. You should see a dialog called "Permissions for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
  5. Click Add... The "Select Users, computers or groups" dialog appears.
  6. In the field labelled "Enter the object names to select", enter the Windows user name that you use to log into your computer. Remember to click Check Names to validate the name you enter.
  7. Click OK. You should be back at the "Permissions for..." dialog.
  8. In the "Group or usernames" list, click on the username you just added.
  9. In the "Permissions for.." list, click Full Control.
  10. The dialog should appear as follows:
  11. Click OK.
  12. Install the add-in.

Hopefully, you should now see the "Send to Confluence" button in all it's glory.

I eventually found a clue to the problem on this page: http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/trbl_nt_rgsvrfld80070005.htm

I think I've tried all the permutations of trying to see the "Send to Confluence" button - though don't know where I should be looking for this - is it a toolbar button in Excel and Word?

My problem is that I select the COM Addin & tick the check box for "Confluence Office Addin" but nothing happens. The check box is always unchecked when I view the COM Addin dialog; I tried this from both Excel and Word and I have the same problem.

fyi: Using Office 2000, and previously had the Excel Copy to Clipboard and Word Macro converter "installed".

Anyone else had these issues - or is it just me?

(Have also tried Nick Murray's still having problems suggestion.)

      Hi David,

It could be that you're using Office 2000. I don't know if the add-in is compatible or not. If the checkbox is always un-ticked, that might mean that there is some kind of conflict between versions of DLLs. Have you applied all the Office 2000 service packs (I think there were 3 or 4 of them)?

Unfortunately I no longer have access to Office 2000, so I can't check this.

I get the same problem as David, on Office 2003.  Both Word 2003 and Excel 2003 - the add-in shows up in the "COM Addins", but will not remain checked.  Also no button appears.

I too have tried Nick Murray's suggestion with no improvement.
