Looks promising! Word doc import fails with system error and partial import if headings contain invalid characters for a Confluence page name. Subsequent re-import at higher heading level to avoid error fails as well with:

excellent idea, definitely will be worth the money!  i look forward to it.

Most excellent plugin. Way better than the dumpy perl script I finished about a week ago.

I don't have access to the Developer Jira database or else I'd write up a bug, but I noticed that when I have anonymous access enabled in a read-only state, the import doc tab still shows up on pages and allows me to import a doc (create a page) even though I don't have those permissions.

I fixed the security problem and posted a new version on http://www.benryan.com. Word/DAV will now hide the UI components if a user doesn't have permission as well as perform permission checks before proceeding with an import or export.

This plugin looks promising. The biggest complaint I hear regarding Confluence is the general unfriendliness of the editor. Whilst that's a matter of opinion it's difficult to alter perceptions. "Edit in word" is a big selling point.

Do you have plans for Firefox and OpenOffice compatibility? This would be a major advantage in encouraging Mac and Linux users to engage more fully with Confluence in our organisation.

What about version checking..

I can open, edit and save a document although someone changed it in the mean time....

We're interested in this plugin to provide kind of minimal offline capabilities. But if we don't get a version checking, users will immediatly create a big mess.

Nice plugin!  I find it a little odd, though, that you have to first create a dummy page, then "doc import" the word doc, which overwrites the dummy page.  In MSIE it overwrote both the subject line and the body, while in Mozilla (which works for me with no extra plugin steps ?!) it preserved the subject line but overwrote the body.

This is an excellent plugin.  I wonder how difficult it would be to make it extensible itself - so that the table-plus and ibltable plugin people can allow WordDAV to take advantage of the rich table features of those plugins.

Also - is it possible to add export to Word so the Export Space feature, and the top-right-hand print/pdf export add Word export capability?

I'm trying to install this from the Plugin Repository and I keep getting "TypeError: exception has no properties". I'm using Confluence v2.6.0.

The import Doc is not working with me when adding the wiki code to adaptavist theme builder 3.1 is there a special wiki tag for the imprt document like the one for edit in word?

Love the new viewfile plugin.....the video on the website looks great.

Unfortunately I'm having a few problems with it. I have gotten XLS files to work and a simple word doc but .ppt files and any large word files dont seem to work.

All my.ppt files just appear blank.....no error message or anything.Large word files are producing the following error

viewfile: java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1964

 Any ideas?

Trying the plugin but have not been successful.

• On IE6 on XP SP2, I keep getting "Unable to create an ActiveX object to open the document. This is likely because of security settings of your browser". I have set the security level to low, is there a specific setting I'd have to change?
• In Firefox 2.0.0.12 on XP SP2, I installed the plugin, but it doesn't do anything See errors below:
• Is it supposed to work on FF on Mac? See error below.

Hi, I am using Adaptavist Theme Builder theme and I am not able to see Edit in word and Doc Import options. can anyone point to which menu item will let me add these options to the menu manually?

I have a couple of questions for you because my boss is thinking about purchase an unlimited license.  I just finished watching the demo with the upcoming features which looks pretty sweet.  When will that version be available for purchase?  Will the watermark that's in the trial/demo/free version go away once a license is purchased?  One of our user that's testing the free version is getting this error message "The selected file is not a binary Word  97-2003 documen", help?

i should be test the plugin in Confluence 2.8 with the new Confluence default theme (not the classic theme).
I don't see the import doc tab or the label with the word icon.

Are there any Solutions for this?

We recently purchased a unlimited license and installed Word/DAV 1.3.2 and a couple of our big wigs are having problems getting it to work on Mac with OpenOffice (which I thought was supported). When they click on the word icon in Confluence everything appears that it's going to work meaning you can see OpenOffice starting but nothing happens after that, OpenOffice never actual starts or open the doc to be edited. Any ideas?

I installed the new Word/DAV 1.3.3 on Confluence 2.8 and i found it at the first moment great

This is a great plug-in, and the viewfile macro is so handy. However, we use the Top and Left Navigation Theme - Alternative Version on several spaces, and the Word icon does not show up. So when using the Top and Left Nav Theme, the WordDAV plugin is only partially functional.  There's no way to Edit seamlessly in Word. Is there a fix for this? We'd really appreciate it!

Hi, We found a minor issue with the viewfile macro when renaming a page. If you rename a page that uses the viewfile macro, it breaks the rendering of the attachment. A workaround is to remove the reference to the macro, rename the page, then re-reference the viewfile macro.

We've had a problem with the Word DAV plugin on our confluence server. There was an error and we had to restart Tomcat. The "Edit in word" button seems to have disappeared since then. We've restarted the server, but still no respite.

 The word/DAV plugin seems installed ok and has all modules enabled.

Any help here?

A little confused.  Been reading about this plugin and sounds wicked! - it says on the home page its free, but then when you click to download it says you have to pay for it and its by a different company?  Have Atlassian now bought this and so its free?

Also can we get this working on a Mac using Office 2008?  I have installed the plugin, but if I click on edit in word nothing happens.  No errors, but does not launch word.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but when I click edit in word, it brings up word with the correct file.  If I press save word prompts me to save it on my hard drive it doesn't save it back to the server.

I got some dialog errors when trying to load the plugin from the Plugin Repository (version incompatibilities with 2.8.2, apparently).

This has been reported to Atlassian, I'm assuming it'll get fixed relatively quickly. I'm looking forward to deploying this plugin in our environment ! Videos of the product look *great*. 

I ran into an issue on my Mac.

I installed the WebDAV Launcher addon when prompted (this is in Firefox) and restarted the browser.

When I click Edit in Word, however, nothing happens.  I've tried it several times.

If it's any help, the Error Console throws 4 Errors.  Three of them say "Permission denied to get property Object.flags" and the fourth says the same about Object.classDescription.

I've just tried it out in Firefox on windows and see that in the WebDAV Launcher Options, it comes prefilled with an entry for doc and the file path for Word.

I added this information to the Mac version and Word did open up, but that's all that happened, no prompting for a username and password.

I found that the errors still happened, but they even happen when it works on windows, so that sounds like a separate issue.

Any ideas?

We still get the error written above: "unable to create an ActiveX object to open the document."

We are using Office 2002 and IE6 and a standalone install of confluence 2.9. When trying with FF it works perfectly combined with the FF plugin. I already tried to set my IE settings to minimal, but it did not make any difference. Is there a minimal requirement for IE7, or should it work in IE6 as well? Does there need to be set some specific settings to get it to work?

I am trying to use this with our Confluence setup that is protected with the Siteminder SSO plugin.

• Importing documents works fine
• Clicking on the W icon to edit a document fails however, Word comes up, but then presents the Siteminder logon page. 

What are the mechanics  behind the last action? Is the source available to modify (we have hit this problem in the past with cookies not being forwarded, so we may be able to fix this issue)

Great plug-in, overall it works very well.  I am having some formatting issues when importing Word Documents though.

1. Numbered lists, especially ones that have sublists or blank lines in between list items causes numbering to restart.
2. Certain image types do not render correctly - in particular images that were copied and pasted from enterprise architect into a word document get attached as strange black and white abstract looking images.

I also get this message when importing some of our documents:

I'm not sure if that's referring to the images that aren't displayed right or something else.

I have some Word documents I can provide as an example of these issues.  Should I post this on the Office Connector JIRA or are these known limitations?  I should note that when I use the Send2Wiki Office-plugin these issues don't come up (other ones do though.)

Summarizing what I've experienced so far:

1. Doc Import does not import Office 2007 (.docx) files.
2. Doing an "Edit In Word" does launch Office 2007 in Windows XP.
3. New version (installed yesterday) works fine on Confluence 2.8.2 as installed via the Plugin Repository mechanism.
4. Does not complmetely mimic the Word formatting (fonts and some spacing). Images embedded in the document appear to work so far though (automatically generates an attachment of the image(s)).
5. Does not function in Word for Mac 2008 on Macintosh; "Edit In Word" launches Word, but no content appears.

Because most of our our office is either Office 2007 or Mac, and because the formatting is limited, I think the use of this particular plugin is limited in our environment. However, it is a great effort on the part of the WordDAV folks and Confluence.

• Seamless integration with Single sign on remove the need to key in userid and password
• Or to encrypt the id and the password
• The excel macro does not render as the original excel file and does not render if it is only a chart without any content in the cells

Is the source available for this plug-in?  I notice above that the license is "Freeware / Open Source (Free with Confluence)", but I can't seem to find the source.

What's a useful rule-of-thumb in terms of additional CPU load and memory usage while using this?

I'm using 1.5Gb in the VM, 2GB in the server - this was fine for Confluence 2.7 without this plugin.

Are these levels likely to be sufficient for Confluence 2.9 assuming, say, 20% use of the office documents?

You are using WebDAV plugin which is not supported and which stopped its development about a year ago. It have a quite big problem with user authentication - it can't work with non standart authenticator (seraph, sso). And because of that Office Connector can not get access to WebDAV Web folder and don't work correctly.

We are authenticating against an LDAP server I have found that if the user logs and does NOT click the Remember my login on this computer checkbox and they then go to edit a page via word, we constantly get prompted for username and password credentials.  Entering the details correctly does not allow the page/file to be opened - you simply get prompted again.

If however you login and check the Remember my login on this computer and again try to access the file via the edit in word link it does work.

Anyone else had the same issues?

I saved it to my docs then tried to open it and got a message from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher saying ' failed to load main-class manifest from [file path]'

I am having a problem with saving documents from Word to Confluence. Every time I try to save a document. I get an error saying "There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost.". Word then will open a Save dialog with it pointing to the Confluence directory. The document saves fine in Confluence but this error and dialog have the users worried and perplexed.

I have narrowed the problem to using Apache 2.2 with mod_proxy_ajp talking to Tomcat 5.5.25. When I point the browser directly at the Tomcat instance everything works and without any errors or dialog boxes. Is anyone else have a setup like this using mod_jk, mod_proxy_ajp or mod_proxy_html from an Apache HTTP server. I would rather stick with mod_proxy_ajp since it gives better performance, but if there is a working configuration I will make the change.

- Our Confluence install is behind a Single SignOn and this presents issues with WebDav login (particularly the way usernames and passwords are set).  Can we remove the "Edit in Word" item from the menu until we can resolve the username issue.

- Also, we would like to keep the "Doc Import" item, but change the default so that it defaults to importing as a new page rather than replacing the current page.  This would include when clicking the Import button and the default selected radio button in the Advanced menu.

Are these changes possible within our install?
I'm perfectly will to make code changes on the server.

The viewfile macro is a great feature! Have a little problem, though, when using the viewfile macro to display a very wide spreadsheet.  Running Confluence 2.8.2, the space uses the default theme with the popular TreeNavigation and SearchNavigation as a left side navigation area.  The wide excel file covers most of the left nav area.  Does anyone have a suggestion or workaround so that the Nav area is displayed along with the spreadsheet?  Thank you.

Firefox 3.0.3
WebDav Launcher 1.0
NeoOffice 2.2.3

I have a viewfile macro pointed at an attached .xls file and when I try to open it, I can see that NeoOffice starts opening, but after a few seconds, quits and the document never opens.

Any help would be appreciated.

We use Confluence 2.9.1 and the LDAP Login with ldaputil 1.0.11 at the moment, this works fine and login to Confluence is possible. When trying to open a page via "Edit in Word" we get the login question again:

Plugin is fantastic, the one thing we can't figure out is how to "view changes" when editing in the viewfile macro.  The view changes feature is great in the wiki pages, but we are unable to utilize that with the office connector plugin.

Is there a way to import a hundred odd word documents at once?

Now, my little problem: Maybe is my Confluence Version 2.3.3 but Openoffice (3.0) can't open the file when I click the "Edit in Word" link. This only happens when the article name has accents.

For example when I try to edit in Openoffice the document named Pruebas de edición con Word Openoffice shows this error message:

Now, if i change the article name to Pruebas de edicion con Word (removed the accent from the "o" letter) the "Edit in Word" works perfectly.

Looking for some general advice. Office Connector all installed and using Confluence v2.9. I've dropped a simple PPT and DOC file (Office 2003) onto a page using the viewfile macro. I can't see the edit Pencil button on the Adobe viewer as referenced in the demo. Neither can I click on the hidden toolbar to edit the word document. What am I missing here? Webdav all installed and enabled.Presume there is some permissions problem somewhere.

I was so happy to see this plugin working like a magic in one of our development environement (with Jboss/confluence 2.9.1/DB2v9.5) and the same dragged us to migrate into another dev region where we have application server as Websphere 6.1 (rest everything remains the same). But unfortunately it didn't work there and I keep on getting the error message: *The selected file is not a valid binary Word 97-2003 document*. There is no error message in the log files. Confused with the message I tried documents even with a single line, but no help. In order to replicate it, I tried it in one of our dev environment with the same system configs and it doesn't work there as well. I saw the same issue in  Jira raised by one user and noticed that even they were using Websphere 6.x as the application server.

Is it possible for you to look into it? We really had a lot of expectations from this plugin

Is it the websphere deep classpath problem? I had read it among one of the known issues for websphere/confluence. I guess we can give a try by trimming the package/class names to some shorter names....

Very nice macro. I'm having problems when I add a powerpoint presentation at the top of the page. The options for the menu "Edit" are not visible where the powerpoint presentation starts. It only happens with powerpoint presentations. Word and Excel documents show properly. Here is a screen shot of it.

The Firefox plugin doesn't list x86_64 as supported, I can confirm it doesn't launch in x86_64 Linux (Ubuntu 8.04), OO 2.4 installed, plugin installed - the editor doesn't get launched. If anyone knows any softlink 32bit tweakery to get it running I'm all ears!

Also, was looking at authentication issues with 5. NTLM Authenticator for Confluence, Comments 07-08. This plugin manages to work in a forms environment, I was interested in how it authenticates, but as yet there is no source code. Is there any intention to provide source at some point here (if not, does it get bundled with the Confluence source tarball?)

When I confirm plugin installation FF fails with error "Not a valid install package - 207". I also tried to simpy open specified URL at both FF and IE and it result in empty page.
Of cource I managed to finally get webdavloader.xpi from plugin JAR file, but it isn't a suitable way for our customers to install this plugin

Any idea how is can be fixed?

Very useful plugin but unless I am missing something it only works with "wiki" pages and not News (blog posts)." Would be very useful if it work for both or did I miss something in the configuration or setup that would allows "news" to also be edited with word?

Just a quick addition for this particular plugin in the documentation table above. To do most of the document manipulation the plugin offers, Java 5 is required. We are running Confluence 2.8.2 with WebSphere 6.0 currently, which uses Java 1.4.2 and until we dug into some errors we did not know our environment would not support the plugin. Your dependency list only specifies a requirement on Confluence 2.8.0+. I'd add a java dependency as well, since certain application server versions dictate a certain level of java required because they bundle it themselves.

We are planning to migrate to WebSphere 6.1 which to allow us to run the Office Connector 1.3.7 as well as Confluence 2.9 soon, thanks.

I have raised http://developer.atlassian.com/jira/browse/WORDDV-223 in support of the requirement specified by Mark S:
"...change the default so that it defaults to importing as a new page rather than replacing the current page. This would include when clicking the Import button and the default selected radio button in the Advanced menu."
I would at least like to see a checkbox specifying what the user would like to do.

it would be great, if one small issue could be solved:

when displaying word documents, the plugin only displays line breaks from new paragraphs in word (created with <enter>, analogous to html <p></p> tag). unfortunately, it does not create line breaks from simple word line breaks in case they are in the same paragraph (created with <shift-enter>, analogous to html <br> tag). we have many documents, that are not really readable because of this issue and hopefully it's a small thing to fix

I have installed Office Connector plugin in confluence verion2.8 but the user is able to see only the MS Word and MS Excel only. They are complainting like they are not able to see the pdf and powerpoint. Please help me to get through this problem.

The 'availability' value for this plugin is 'Confluence v2.8.0 to v2.10.1'.

Is it compatible with Confluence v2.10.2 ?

View and edit Office documents from within Confluence I have been able to edit confluence pages using word, I have been able to upload and view word documents both using the viewfile macro as part of a confluence page or by opening the document in word by clicking the attachment link.  I take the last part of the statement "and edit" to mean that I can edit the content of word documents that I have uploaded but I have not been able to accomplish that because they open in (read only) format. 

Am I doing something wrong?  Do I have a setting I need to change?  Or am I understanding from some other posts I have seen that when it says "edit Office documents" the edit option only applies to PowerPoint documents and not to Word Documents?

I did verify that my setup met all the criteria, XP, FireFox 3.0, etc.  I am able to see the hidden line of the file but not click on it to open in word.  only way I am able to open document to word is by clicking the file link from the attachments screen/list and then it opens in Read Only

When using the viewfile macro in Confluence 2.10.1 to display the contents of a Powerpoint file with Japanese text,
nothing was displayed.

Is this a known issue with files containing double-byte characters and is there a solution to this problem?
