5.4 Backing Up and Restoring Data

You can backup your Crowd data to an XML file. This data includes:

  • your Crowd server configuration details, including connection details for all your directories and applications.
  • any internal directories that exist.

It is recommended that you backup your data regularly, especially after any significant configuration changes. It is also recommended that you perform regular backups of your database.

To backup your Crowd data,

  1. Login to the Crowd Administration Console.
  2. Click the 'Backup & Restore' link in the top navigation bar.
  3. Click the 'Backup' tab.
  4. Type an appropriate 'File Backup Path', including the name of the XML file, then click the 'Submit' button.

To restore your Crowd data,

Before you begin: If you created the XML backup file on a different server, edit the crowd.properties file and change the password to match the password of the server on which you created the XML backup file.

  1. Login to the Crowd Administration Console.
  2. Click the 'Backup & Restore' link in the top navigation bar.
  3. Click the 'Restore' tab.
  4. In the 'Restore File Path' field, type the path to the XML file. Then click the 'Submit' button.
