Guy's Wishlist for Confluence 3

  1. Open Source as many core plugins as possible (allow the developer community to help with the tasks that follow)
  2. Add namespace support (so pages in the same space can have the same title)
  3. Make news (blogposts) simply pages with a "news" label I wrote a summary several comments down (news is currently a "second class citizen")
  4. Add ability to back-date and future-date pages and also set an expiry date (now you can schedule content)
  5. Add a chronological browser to "Browse Space > Pages" (so we can view any content in a chronological fashion, with filters for content type and labels, etc)
  6. Alter the way comments work + related permissions (so that Confluence can be used as a proper forum)
  7. Implement space channels (allows sections of content within a space to have specific permissions, etc) - see also Security (which I believe Space Channels would incorporate and simplify)
  8. Implement approvals system (with space channels, you could have differnt profiles within a space) – see also: Approval Workflow
  9. Add the ability to "watch" an RSS feed (now you have mailing lists that can be defined using a mixture of content types, actions such as add/edit, labels, space channels and spaces = lightyears ahead of anything else on the market)
  10. Allow admis to view/edit watchers of pages/spaces/rss feeds (now you can manage your mailing lists)
  11. Add ability to email a page (useful for building communities)
  12. Add private messaging features (now provide a less noisy way for those communities to chatter amongst themselves in order to stop drivel getting on to the "forums" - works like a charm in my experience, as long as you have a quota on the number of private messages)

Of course, if we want to follow the Matrix metaphor, what we really have to make sure of is that we don't get carried away with our own cleverness, and have the next two releases suck.

Guesstimating the amount of work involved in implementing even a few of the things above, it would probably take several versions. Those things would be cool though

Just getting familiar with posting on this forum, so not sure if this is the best spot, but would love to see:

    * the ability to associate labels with Attachments... with the idea that you then could quickly pull together a set of attachments (e.g. powerpoint presentations) that shared a common label (e.g. every presentation that had to do with "selling")

    * ability to provide thumbnail images of the contents of an Attachment... with the idea that you could have many Powerpoint slide attached to a page, and could preview them all at once to figure out which ones you like

Yes... folks at my company spend a little bit of time and energy in Powerpoint (in case you're wondering)...
