Table Improvements Page

Stephen Cheng: Confluence works well with table but it would to be nice to be able to

  • Set the column width in % of table width
  • Set the table width manually
  • Set cell height specifically
  • Center the table
  • Not to display the lines around the table

Stephen Cheng would like to be able to do proper layout of complex pages without much work by using table. This would allow quick construction of portal pages, and front pages.

Note that there is a bug with Confluence w.r.t. table -

  •  {rss:url=http://host.com/rss.xml}
    does not work inside tables.

Example table that Stephen Cheng would like to extend to become a nicely laid out portal page:

{rss:url=http://host.com/rss.xml\} {include:Home} {search:query=my_query}

These features together will allow effective layout of pages - especially useful for portal pages, and front pages.

    David: I'd recommend that to move Confluence in this direction, we work with macros rather than the general page markup.

    Every time we add a feature to the Confluence markup, we make the markup harder to learn and harder to understand. (It's also an absolute nightmare to maintain, but that's our problem, not anyone else's) At some point of complexity, we lose all the benefits of having the markup at all, and may as well just fall back on HTML. The ability to throw together a portal sounds like a great idea, but I'm not sure that straight markup is the right place to implement it.

    Renamed page, so that confluence would find it.

    Look for pages with the title "Table Improvments" and there were about 2 or 3, but you could not get a link.
    Which is why there is a TableImprovments page, too.

    This page is causing something whacky. The edit buttons go off to a different site.
