| The Left Navigation theme is no longer part of Confluence This theme is no longer part of Confluence and is not supported from Confluence 3.4 onwards. We suggest the Documentation theme, as it provides a customisable left-hand navigation panel and additional configurable features. If you are using an earlier version of Confluence, please refer to the documentation for your version. For example, go to the documentation for Confluence 3.3. |

When you choose the Left Nav as your global theme, it has an extra configuration item: Navigation Space.
What is its intended functionality? I was hoping it would let you set one Navigation page that every space using the Left Navigation theme would use, so i didn't have to manually manage one per space, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Hi,
I'm using the left navigation theme with the pagetree2 macro (http://www.adaptavist.com/display/builder/pagetree2+macro).
If the tree expands the navigation area (page operations, browse space ) move down and with large trees its quit hard to get the most used buttom "edit".
Any idea how I can give the edit button an additional place on top of each space but still using the left navigation theme?
regards
Joe

Hi Joe,
The PageTree2 macro is a third party plugin which is out of our support scope. For customization, I would advise you to direct your questions to our forum and mailing list as there might be other user/developers who have already implemented it and should be able to share their ideas with you. If you have any technical issues regarding Confluence, you can always raise a support ticket at our issue tracker:

Q: Is there a way of adding Page Operations, Browse Space and Add Content on top of the site using Left Nav format?

Hi there,
If you meant to put the custom menu at a position other than the top, you might want to modify
main.vmdinWEB-INF\classes\com\atlassian\confluence\setup\atlassian-bundled-plugins.zip\confluence-leftnavigation-theme-X.Y.Z.jar\templates\leftnavigationdirectory to rearrange the position of the menus.Hope this helps.

Have a look at the Top and Left Navigation Theme. It allows the Default menu to appear across the top.

Hi there,
I am afraid that may require more advanced customisations. You might want to contact the author of Top and Left Navigation Theme to discuss more on the issue. Otherwise, you can always direct your question to our forums or mailing list as there might be other users/developers who can share the knowledge with you.

In 2.8 the left nav looks horrible, at least under IE6 and FF2. I went to the Codegeist site to make sure I wasn't screwing it up and Codegeist has the same problem. The h1's have a big grey gap under them (which they did not have in previous versions of Confluence). Also they've lost the left padding they used to have so now the titles are right up against the edge of the browser.

I am also having the same problem, i have just upgraded my version of 2.7.2 to 2.8.2 and eventually 2.9 but all the themes that i have installed, i.e. Top and Left Navigation Theme, also the Alternative version all seem to render the navigation on the left hand side really weird, as you have described. Also the new and improved action buttons dont appear i.e Edit, Add and Tools. The only work around is to use the "Default Theme". Does anyone know how to get these other themes that I have mentioned working with 2.8.2, I had a similar result with 2.9 also. Any help would be appreciated.

Many of our spaces use the Left Nav theme, so we are holding off upgrading from 2.7 until this bug is fixed....anybody have any luck with it yet? Thanks! Pam

It looks like using h5 instead of h1 gets rid of that big gray gap in Confluence 2.9.
For example:

I have noticed that if you add an external link to the left navigation that is longer than the width of the left nav panel, it does not wrap. In IE6 it pushes the page content over and in FF the text vanishes in the page content - but the external link arror shows up - floating out in the content.

Hi Scott,
I think this is a limitation in Confluence Left Navigation Theme plugin. Hence, we have raised an improvement request in regards to this issue:
Feel free to add your comment and vote for it.

Hi,
Is there any way such that I can make the customised link in the left navigation pane like the Page Operation tab, ie collapsable & expandable?

Hi, I am sorry that I could not think of any workaround. However, I have created an improvement request at the plugin's issue tracker to address this requirement. Feel free to cast your vote to increase the likeliness of this request to be implemented. Hope that helps!

Is there a way to remove the "page created by, updated by" line which appears at the top-left of pages in this theme? It doesn't add much value for us, and I'd like to get that space back. Thanks.

Zed Yap [Atlassian]
Hi Corey,
Yes, is possible. The easiest way to achieve this across all the space, is to hide the information using CSS. To do that, you might want to try to edit the Custom HTML
via Confluence Admin >> Custom HTML. In the At the end of the HEAD insert the following syntax and save the changes:
Hope that helps.

Is this theme space-specific? We're having trouble getting it to work in more than one space. Any ideas?

Hi Corey,
As far as I know, you can apply the Left Navigation Theme globally via Confluence admin >> Themes. For more information on applying a theme to a site, please refer to this documentation:
Hope that helps,

Using conf 2.10 with the "default" theme as the global default.. have a space with left navigation theme set, but I cant modify the layouts on it?
When going to layouts, receiving "You can not customise the site look and feel while a theme is active. You must first disable currently configured theme."
Aug 12, 2009
Sashidaran Jayaraman [Atlassian]
Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately, the custom layout feature is currently supported only in the Confluence Default Theme. You need to set both your Space Theme and Global Theme to Confluence Default Theme in order to use the custom layout feature.
Hope this helps.

Hi everybody,
We have this feature in our production server, but, after upgrading to the latest version 3.0.1, we only can see the left menu from, the global space or home page. The remaining spaces are configured to use the left navigation and the navigation page as well, but this page somehow is only visible for the global space. A solution would be creating a navigation page on every space, but, that doesn't make sense. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Michel

Hi,
In the Left Navigation Theme, is there a way to set the menus to be expanded as a default? It seems like the default is for them to be collapsed.
Thanks,
Anna

Azwandi Mohd Aris [Atlassian]
Hi Anna,
Sorry if this is a little too late. I am afraid that this is not possible without a Javascript/CSS hack, however, what's more important is the theme has been replaced by the Documentation Theme as noted at the top of the page. This also means that you will get the auto-expanded page tree on the left hand side, as can be seen on this page. Hope this could be of some help!
Cheers,
Azwandi

I Tried to do that by using the 'cloak' and 'toggle' macros, and it works fine.

Unbeknownst to me, a couple of my users were using the Left Navigation Theme
in their personal spaces when I upgraded from 3.3.3 to 3.4.3. They are now unable
to do anything with their personal space, and no Browse menu shows up so they
cannot change the theme. Is there anything I can do at this point?
