Confluence fetches mail from the server once every 30 minutes. You need to be a space administrator to manually retrieve new mail from mail accounts.

I understand it for POP protocol but we are using IMAP to let messages stay on the server

To my understanding, if you are using POP protocol, the mail will be copied and removed from the POP's mail server once the mail is fecthed. However, using IMAP allows you to download the IMAP mail to the local computer and the mail still retain in the IMAP's mail server.

Unfortunately, Confluence does not allow users to remain the mail on the mail server currently. However, I have found an improvement request, which is stated to have the Mail Archiver optionally leave the mail on the mail server:
