This page describes how to move a page. You can move a page:
When you move a page, all of the page content such as attachments and comments will be moved with the page. Additionally, all child and descendent pages and their page content will also be moved. You can also copy a page, and move an attachment. |
| Permissions To move a page, you need the following permissions:
To move a page into a different space, you will also need:

Moving a Page to a Different Space
You can move a page, along with its child pages, to a different space. Any links to a moved page from the current space will automatically be renamed to point to the page in the new space.
To move a page to another space in your Confluence site:
- Go to the page and choose Tools > Move.
- Use the tabs on the left to help you find the new space and parent page for your page, that is, the location where you want to move your page. The 'Current location' and 'New location' breadcrumb trails at the bottom of the dialog indicate the current parent page and new parent page.
- If you want to move a page to a different position amongst the child pages, check Reorder to see a list of sibling pages when you click Move.
- Click Move.
- If you are reordering the child pages, click in the list to set the new position for the page and click Reorder.
Moving a Page within a Space
You can move a page to a different position in the page tree. This allows you to:
- Move a single page, or a family of pages, to have a different parent within the space.
- Reorder sibling pages that are children of a common parent.
Any links to the page are maintained. When a page that is itself a parent (that is, it has one or more child pages) is moved, the entire hierarchy of child pages of the moved page (including comments and attachments) is maintained.
To move a page using the space's 'Tree' view:
- From any page, choose Browse > Pages.
- Click Tree.
- Find the page you want to move.
- Drag the page up or down the tree.
- While dragging the page, you see one of the following:
- A thin line between existing pages — this indicates the potential new position for the page. Release the mouse button when the page is where you want it.
- A wide highlight over one or more existing pages — this indicates that you can drop the page into a page family. Release the mouse button to add the page to the family. The page will appear either in alphabetical sequence or as the last page in the family, depending on the family's sequential order.
The new position of the page is saved as soon as you release the mouse button.
To cancel the move while still holding down the mouse button, press the 'Esc' key.

I can move a page to a new parent but don't have the 'reorder' checkbox as shown. Is there a reason for that?

I am able to move some pages (children of page follow) into alternate spaces. With others I get this error: Move failed. There was a problem contacting the server. Can you further clarify moving pages into other spaces and limitations of this function?

I solved this issue be deleting attachments on child pages. They were preventing the move.

The "move page" dialogue box doesn't appear after clicking "move" in the tools menu of a page (Confluence 3.3.1). We are able to edit the page and view/edit the parent page. Any idea ? Thanks.

I have the same problem. Although I have the Space permissions nothing happens when I go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Move'. I can only move the page by editing the "location" in the "Edit Page" mode.
Any Ideas?

How can I move a whole bunch of pages from one space to another?

Laura -
Basically I suggest to determine or create one parent page ("Mover"), under which you align your whole bundle of pages to be moved. Then move this one page via Tools -> Move to the desired space. All child pages will be moved as well. Here is how I would it:
This is how I would do it, given that I am not aware of any other (=faster) way of dealing with this kind of requirement. I am curious though whether anyone comes up with a cleverer way of moving pages to another space ...

This is a totally stupid feature that should be able to be locked down.

I could not find any way to restrict the moving-page-functionality using the space's 'Tree' view. I am advising larger corporation and this is a request that I frequently hear. In fact, it is a big problem not being able to "control" or "secure" your page hierarchy. I agree that moving pages via drag and trop in 'Tree' view is is a very convenient and important functionality. I would not want to miss it. However, for most of the wiki champions in bigger corporations, this is a big problem since anyone with the "add page" permission could possibly "destroy" or "reorder" pages.
IMHO, the "add pages" permission should be separate from the (currently not existing) "reorder page" permission. Please see this feature request: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-16288 (and please vote for it, since I cannot believe to be the only one missing this option).

When upgrading from 3.5.13-evaluation (standalone) to 4.0.5-x32 (standalone) the installer quits with error dialog box showing something simila to "Not a valid directory". There's no way to continue from here.
I have one 4.0.5-x32 installation in C:\Confluence and C:Confluence-Data and now I was testing upgrading from 3.2 to 4.0.5 in a separate catalog C:\ConfluenceTest (yes, via subsequent upgrades to 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 respectively). And the final upgrade, as mentioned at the top, failed.
Any hints?
