The snipsnap importer allows you to import a Snip Snap XML backup file into a space in Confluence.
Some limitations:
- Currently, attachments are not imported, and Confluence does not recognise duplicate users.
- You cannot import content into multiple spaces.
You need to have System Administrator permissions in order to perform this function.
To import a Snip Snap backup file into Confluence,
- First, use Snip Snap to export a backup to an XML file. Now return to Confluence.
-
Go to the Confluence 'Administration Console'. To do this:
- Open the 'Browse' menu and select 'Confluence Admin'. The 'Administration Console' view will open.
- Select 'SnipSnap Import' in the left-hand panel.
- Enter the location of the Snip Snap backup file in the input field displayed. You can also 'browse' and locate the file.
- Select a space to import the content into and click 'Save'.

It is showing "Import failed for unknown reasons". I realize this is experimental functionality, but I badly need the migration from Snipsnap old wiki to new Confleunce 2.0.2 -based Wiki. This will only make Confleunce more famous inside our company.
Any tips, help, very much appreciated.
Thanks.

What to do ? Is the file itself too big ? Or is there a particular snip that is too big ? Could I possibly chunk up the file to make it work ?

Since no attachements are imported anyway, I removed the gibberish between <data>gibberish</data>tags. That got my file down to 5 MB instead of 19. I also had some duplicate users so I removed the users section as well, from the dumped xml file. Then, it worked like a charm !

Sorry for the late reply. I know you found a workaround already but just for the archive:
The file size restriction is set under Administration > General Configuration > Attachment Maximum Size. You can change this setting to fit the size of your backup.
Cheers,
Jens

The second time I try it in a row, it always suceeds. (I've done this twice). So if it fails when you try it once, try it twice -- I hope that helps.
