Description/Features

The Atlassian Activity Stream Plugin gives you a consolidated view of all of the activity taking place in your projects. Appearing in JIRA as a project tab or dashboard portlet, the Activity Stream collects information from JIRA, Confluence, FishEye and Crucible.

Installation

Start by installing the Application Links plugin. The Activity Stream relies on Application Links to function. If you are only using JIRA and don't plan to link other applications, you only need to install the applinks-api.jar file and can ignore the others.

Installing plugins in JIRA is easy.

Once you have downloaded or created your plugin jar, follow these steps:

  1. Shut down JIRA
  2. copy '$MY_COOL_PLUGIN.jar' into '.../atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib/'
  3. Start up JIRA.
  4. Go to 'Administration > Plugins' and confirm that $MY_COOL_PLUGIN is listed and enabled.
  5. Enjoy!

If you're installing the Confluence plugin, you'll need to also drop these two JAR files into your Confluence WEB-INF/lib directory:

Right now this plugin only works with JIRA Studio, but we are working on making it available to all JIRA users. I'll be sure to update this page with instructions once we're ready.

          Doods,

Sorry that we don't have a firm date for you yet. The development priority has been JIRA Studio, and there are parts of the Stream plugin that rely on components of JIRA Studio that have not yet been released publicly. We haven't forgotten standard JIRA users, though, so I hope that in the next few weeks I can provide a version that will work on standalone JIRA, minus the integration with Confluence, FishEye and Crucible. Then the fully-integrated version will be made available after the required dependencies have been released.

    Hi, everyone!

Sorry for the long silence, but I've just added information to this page on where to download the latest release. I'll continue to fill in information over the next several days.

Please be aware that this has only been minimally tested outside of the JIRA Studio environment, so it should still be considered experimental for the time being. Let us know how things go, and if you run into any issues, please report them in the Activity Stream JIRA project.

We hope to be able to allocate time to testing this more thoroughly in the the near future so we can bring it to officially-supported status.

I'm trying to run the Activity Stream on JIRA 3.12.2 and am running into an issue. I see many exceptions that look like the following in the logs:

      2008-09-03 22:05:52,310 Thread-1 WARN [atlassian.studio.streams.DefaultActivityFeedManager] Could not load com.atlassian.studio.streams.confluence.ConfluenceActivityProvider

      	at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method)
      ...

This exception causes none of the Tabs to display on Browse Project. Any ideas on how to fix this? Or should I wait for 3.13

You don't need to wait for 3.13, you just need to install the Application Links plugin. I've added some basic installation instructions to the top of the page.

If you're only using JIRA by itself, you only need to install applinks-api.jar and it will automatically hide the Wiki tab. I did notice that if you install the full App Links plugin but do not configure a Crucible link, you'll get an error in the Activity Stream. There's a bug already opened for this.

      Matt,

Google Reader doesn't support HTTP authentication, so unless anonymous browsing is allowed for your JIRA instance & projects, an empty feed would be normal. To make it use your login info, add &os_username=yourusername&os_password=yourpassword to the end of the URL (this works for any URL in JIRA). For example: https://studio.atlassian.com/plugins/servlet/feed?&&maxResults=10&os_username=tmoore&os_password=itsasecret (not my real password of course ).

But I'd advise being very careful with this: Google Reader is known to sometimes share feed URLs that are supposed to be private with other people (in its recommended feeds section). So you might not want a URL with your username and password floating around the web!

A more secure option would be to use a feed reader that supports HTTP authentication. To use that, add &os_authType=basic to the URL instead of os_username and os_password. Then your feed reader should prompt you for a user name and password. I switched to NetNewsWire for this reason, and I have to say, it's pretty great!
