Description/Features
This email handler allows the user to select the project, issue type, priority, component, version, security level and assignee. It also works with custom fields and it supports localized issue type and priority names. If there are any errors, the email handler will return a help email with available projects, issue types, components, versions etc.
To create an issue by email, send an email in the format outlined below to JIRA:
To: jirademo@softwaretesting.de Subject: issue created by email @Project = TEST @Issuetype = Task @Priority = Major @Component = Software @Version = V 1.0 This is the description of the new issue.
The email handler scans the email for certain keywords, selects the appropiate project, issue type, priority etc. and then creates a new JIRA issue using the remainder of your email.
Try this with our demo JIRA system. Register yourself at http://www.softwaretesting.de/jira-demo, then send an email to jirademo@softwaretesting.de. Remember to select the english locale in your preferences, otherwise the email handler expects all communication in german language, which is the default on that server.
After the issue has been created and whenever someone changes something, JIRA sends out the ususal info emails. You can reply to these emails, JIRA will enter them as comments to the issue.
Installation
To install the Pix Email Handler, all files must be copied to the appropiate locations. Unpack the Pix Email Handler zip (or tar.gz) file into an empty directory. You will get a new directory named "WEB-INF".
- If you are using the JIRA standalone distribution: Locate the directory "atlassian-jira" in your JIRA standalone distribution, then copy the new WEB-INF directory into the "atlassian-jira" directory, replacing existing files.
- If you are using a JIRA war file: locate the directory "edit-webapp" and copy the new WEB-INF directory into the "edit-webapp" directory. After that, rebuild the JIRA war file and deploy it into your application server.
You need to restart the application server after doing these modifications.
After installing the software you need to define a POP3 / IMAP server, set up the new mail service handler and optionally define default parameters. See the product's documentation for available otions.
