Description/Features

This is a very simple portlet for the JIRA dashboard that provides an obvious search point for new users.
Its expected use cases are for custom dashboards, to make it easier for new users to search for existing issues by providing a simpler search interface than the Find Issues page, and to provide a search system with less magic than the Quick Search.

It has the following functionality:

  • Searches Summary, Description, Comments and Environment
  • Three different searches - All (default), Open and Closed issues
  • No magic - so searching for 'FOO-23' doesn't fall over
  • The Search can be restricted to a set of projects

Custom dashboards are envisioned with Search fields that auto-default certain fields. Project is the obvious first one to default.

Release History

Version 1.0.2 was released on 6th of April 2009. It added the following improvement:

  • JOUT-58 - Default to a set of projects (allowing for searches to default to a subset of the JIRA)

Version 1.0.1 was released on 13th of April 2007. It made it so the portlet appears for anonymous users.

Version 1.0 was released on 26th of March 2007.

Installing

Install the plugin by downloading the plugin jar, placing it in your $JIRA/WEB-INF/lib/ and giving your JIRA a restart.

Once it's installed you can add it to your dashboard by selecting the Search Box portlet. Please follow the instructions from Atlassian for configuring your personal dashboard or the default dashboard.

However...

All of the above said, I recommend that you investigate the Quick Search documentation. It's a powerful tool.

I'm trying to install this plugin for Confluence Enterprise version 3.12.3 but I have the problem that it doesn't show the three icons. I only get three broken images symbols.

Is the version we are using basically unsupported or is this a known issue with a workaround?

I've never tried this - presumably you're using it through the jira macro? If you can report it in the JIRA then I can work on it as I thought images should work. Some of the JavaScript in other plugins seems to have trouble, but I hadn't seen image issues iirc.
