- You will now need to Add a Whiteboard custom field, to do so:
- Go to the Administration tab.
- Select the Custom Fields menu item.
- click Add a Custom Field.
- Select the Whiteboard custom field and click on next.
- Give a name to the field("Whiteboard" would be a good one). and click Finish
- Select the Default Screen
- The Whiteboard is now installed and ready to use!
Usage
Editing and Viewing a Whiteboard
At issue creation time:
- Create an issue
- Click on the Go to Whiteboard link.
- You can now draw on the whiteboard!
- Click the Done button to return to Jira

Tip
To fully enjoy the Whiteboard plugin, we highly recommend the use of a tablet pc.
If price is an issue, an entry level usb drawing tablet is still a very good improvement over the mouse alone.

It works fine with the "Go To Whiteboard" But I can't get it to show up on my screen. When I used version1.0 of the plugin it displayed just fine. I even went so far as to create a second custom field (whiteboard2). The field is on the screens (including the default screen). But no matter what I do I cannot get it to be displayed. Again, if I select "Go to Whitboard" and then save my changes, when I go back there the changes are there. So I know that part is working fine.
Any ideas what may be going on here?

As of version 1.1, we have removed the screen you are talking about.
But rest assured, a better feature is planned for the 1.2 release: image attachment of the whiteboard !
I hope you will enjoy it.
Thanks for your interest in the product.

I noticed that when I am using white board and I add a "post-it" and use "A" text tool over it.. when I save it and open the whiteboard again text is missing.
If I place on directly to whiteboard (not over post-it) text is shown correctly.

I can't reproduce the bug you are talking about.
Could you please go to the issue tracker ( see the link at the top of the page), register and log your bug?
We can continue this discussion there.
Thanks

I am also having issues at times where I completely lose the whiteboard for an issue. When I open the whiteboard again after having saved something, the whiteboard is completely blank. My JIRA is connected to DB2.
Phil,
I didn't see any issue logged on what JP mentioned above. I am having the same issue. I have just installed JIRA 3.13 and version 1.1 of whiteboard. I also have GreenHopper installed, if that matters. Anyway, when I place a sticky on the screen, and then select the text tool and click on the sticky note and type a message, I can then move the sticky note and the text goes with it. However, if I save the whiteboard, close out, and then open the whiteboard again, the text is no longer on the sticky note.
If JP doesn't log an issue, I would be happy to and then communicate with you on it. I just would like to get this fixed.
Thanks, Dan
PS. It would also be nice if either the sticky note had text built in so that the text automatically wrapped, or if using the text tool on top of a sticky note, then the text wraps.

I have finally reproduced the problem with text disappearing on sticky notes.
You can find the corresponding issue here: WTB-48
As for the whiteboard not properly saving, could you open an issue on our bug tracker so that we can discuss it more thoroughly ?
The automatic wrapping of text on sticky notes is a great idea! I have added it to the backburner.
Still, for now, you can do it manually by pressing the enter key when you want to wrap.

Right now, the reload button only reloads the whiteboard data that is cached on the browser, it doesn't fetch data from the server.
I have added your request as issue WTB-51

Would it be possible to add the ability to save a whiteboard for an individual issue without it being saved as an attachment on the issue? We have many different groups that work out of their own projects and some groups do not want others to be able to view anything within their project, including whiteboards but they don't want to save them as attachments.
Thanks again.

I have added your request as issue WTB-69
As for the group that do not want others to see anything within their projects, this can be solved using the jira permission schemes.
The whiteboard edition is linked to jira's "edit issue" permission but anybody with the "browse project" permission can see the attachment.
Thanks,
~Phil

I've installed the plugin as you described, but the "Go to Whiteboard" link does not apprear on my screen. The custom whiteboard field is visible in all screens under administration - screens.
What am I doing wrong?

Is your whiteboard custom field configured for project and issue type that you want ?
You can see if it is in Administration->Custom Fields->(your whiteboard field name)->configure.
You also need the "Edit Issues" permission .
Please let me know if it was of any help.
