JIRA Studio Licensing

JIRA Studio Documentation

JIRA Studio licensing is user-based. That is, the pricing for your JIRA Studio instance is determined by the number of users that you want to have access to it.

There are two different user account types for licensing, Developer and Collaborator. Each user account type has a separate user count for your license and provides a different level of access to JIRA Studio.

The sections below describe the differences between these two user account types and how to purchase and configure them.

What are the differences in Studio access between Developer and Collaborator accounts?

User Account Type JIRA (Issues) Confluence (Wiki) FishEye (Source) Crucible (Reviews) Subversion (Repository)
Developer
Collaborator

— the user account type has complete user access to the application.
— the user account type cannot access the application.

Please note, Collaborators will not even be able to see the Source or Review application tabs in JIRA Studio. Collaborators will not have any access to your Subversion repository either, which means that they cannot commit code.

What are the differences in pricing between Developer and Collaborator user account types?

Collaborator and Developer user account types are priced separately, as they allow different levels of access to JIRA Studio.

JIRA Studio starts with a minimum purchase of five Developer users. You can then choose to add Collaborator users to your account and/or further Developer users. Please note that you must purchase the minimum five Developer users before you can add any Collaborator users to your account.

Further upgrades are available in pre-specified amounts, e.g. 5 users, 10 users, 15 users, etc. There is no maximum limit on the number of users you can upgrade to.

Please see the JIRA Studio pricing page for details on pricing. If you wish to purchase more developer and/or collaborator users for your account, please refer to the instructions in the account update FAQ

How do I change a user from a Developer to a Collaborator (and vice versa)?

The user account type is specified for users at account creation or when you edit a user. Please see the Managing User Account Types page for instructions on how to change a user from a Developer to a Collaborator and vice versa.

How do I calculate the user count for my account?

You can view the user count for your count on the JIRA Studio Administration Console. See the instructions on viewing your Account Information. This page will list the user counts of Developers and Collaborators for your account. The number of each user account type purchased for your account is displayed, as well as the number currently being used.

If you have reached the user limit for one or both of the user account types for your account, there are a number of options for you to manage this problem:

  • if you have only reached the user limit for one of your user account types, you can change the user account type for those users. For example, if you have exceeded the number of developers allowable under your license, but have not exceeded your collaborator count, you could change some of your developers to collaborators. To make this change, read the instructions on changing the user account type for a user on the Managing User Account Types page.
  • if you have reached the user limit for both of your user account types, you can remove the user from all user groups with login privileges. This means that the user will no longer count against either your developer or your collaborator counts. To make this change, read the instructions on managing users and groups.
  • if you do not wish to change user account types for your users or remove login privileges from any users, you may wish to consider upgrading your account to add more users. To make this change, read the instructions on upgrading your account
