GreenHopper
Q: Is the GreenHopper plugin an extra cost?
A: Yes - GreenHopper is a commercial plugin. Pricing can be found here: http://www.atlassian.com/software/greenhopper/pricing.jsp. It does come bundled with our JIRA Studio hosted product.
Q: Are epic/themes part of JIRA or GreenHopper?
A: Epics are configured by GreenHopper using JIRA's customisation features. The themes referenced are GreenHopper-specific.
Q: Can you configure ""process lanes"" (queues) for the kanban board?
A: Yes you can, you can decide which workflow steps the swim lanes map to, what they're called on screen, and a constraint limit for each lane. The lane turns red to indicate an overflow.
Q: Can the capacity marker be set to hours, as opposed to number of issues?
A: Yes, you can configure the markers to use hours, story points, issue count, or any other statistics you have defined for your projects.
Q: are sprints tied to a version? That is looks like I can create sprints all as a ""subset"" of a version. Is that correct?
A: Sprints are themselves a JIRA version, you create the hierarchy in GreenHopper. See http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GH/Setting+Up+a+Version+Hierarchy
Q: In Greenhopper – want to show a taskboard across projects (or ideally via any type of JQL filter)
A: Unfortunately the only cross-project functionality we currently offer is in the Agile gadget for your dashboard. There may be plans for cross-project support in future releases of GH. The GH team releases updates much more frequently than JIRA, so keep an eye out
Q: In GH – is there a way to create custom taskboard column mappings per user? (in addition to the default taskboard column) eg a QA person might want to segment things differently on the taskboard vs the SCRUM master vs a Developer etc.
A: The columns can only be customized per context, not per user.
Q: Any plans to add cross-project functionality to GH?
A: It's being considered, but requires a significant architecture change to GreenHopper so hasn't been scheduled yet. Please see http://jira.atlassian.com/ghs-705 for more details. You can dd your vote to the issue if you haven't already.
Q: Can we link our issues of Jira with our planning in GreenHopper
A: GreenHopper is tightly integrated with JIRA, the issues you work on in GH are the same ones you work on in JIRA, so any changes you make in GH affect the same issues in JIRA.
Q: How does GH assist with detailed capacity planning? i.e. resource by resource
A: You can have multiple statistics configured and use these for planning your different resources. For instance, Design and Development may estimate tasks using different 'weightings' of story points, you may use 'Art Points' and 'Story Points' and then arrive at a different velocity for each over time.
Q: In GH 4.4, are contexts shareable by everyone other than the project leads and GH administrators?
A: You must be a project administrator to share a context - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GH/Using+Contexts+to+Filter+and+Highlight+Issues
Q: Can you have more than one marker in the planning board at a time?
A: You can have only one marker for each statistic you use in your project (Story Points, Issue Count). You can have multiple, but only 1 of each type.
Q: You mentioned being able to save a GreenHopper template for use on other projects... how does one do that?
A: Simply go to the project within the Agile tab, then select Tools and Configuration. You will have the option to change the template in use for that particular project - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GH/Configuring+your+GreenHopper+Project+Settings
Upgrading
Q: What's the process for upgrading from JIRA 4.0 to 4.1 and the newest Grasshopper?
A: The process is documented here http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/JIRA+4.1+Upgrade+Guide
Q: Is there a cost for upgrading?
A: Not if you're under active maintenance, no. Otherwise, you'll need to renew maintenance.
Q: What's involved in upgrading JIRA 4.0.1 with Greenhopper 4.2.1
A: We recommend the standard upgrade procedure, which is documented here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA
Q: Is there video training available for JIRA 4.0?
A: We have official training courses that you can sign up for (http://www.atlassian.com/training/) or our more informal 40-minute JIRA 4 demo (http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/demo.jsp).
Q: Does the current version of JIRA Studio have JIRA 4.1 and GH 4.4?
A: No, it is still running JIRA 4.0 and GH 4.3. It will be a couple of months before the latest versions are integrated.
Q: What are the minimum system/ browser requirement for JIRA 4.4?
A: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/JIRA+Requirements
Customisation
Q: Are keyboard shotrcuts customizable on a per user basis?
A: No, keyboard shortcuts are global at the moment.
Q: Did I just see that you have the ability to NOT send notifications that you make? ie do not notify me if i made the update?
A: That's correct, you can choose to not receive updates on changes that you make yourself. This is located in your user profile.
Q: How do you configure the custom emails?
A: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Customising+Email+Content
New UI
Q: With the new UI ... if you have custom date fields - do they now automatically show up in the date section ... or can you control where the custom date fields appear ... ie other tabs?"
A: All custom fields will show up on the left-hand side of the issue details.
Q: Where are the issue links shown on this new view issue screen?
A: Issue links will appear between the issue description and activity sections, on the left-hand side of the view issue screen.
Q: One comment, I don't like the new UI where a lot of stuff is hidden from the users and not readily available, especially workflow actions. Dont hide stuff!
A: Sorry to hear that :/ We're definitely open to feedback on the UI, you can direct the feedback as a JIRA issue on jira.atlassian.com, or to our sales team: sales@atlassian.com.
Q: How does the UI display workflow actions that have long names?
A: The default number of workflow transitions shown on screen is 2 - this number was chosen because given the longest possible transition name for a workflow, exactly two could fit on screen. The exact number of transitions shown is configurable however, so if you have shorter transition names, you can choose to show more of them.
JIRA Usage
Q: Can you move a task and make it a subtask?
Q: How have the administrator screens changed?
A: The admin screens haven't seen a bunch of changes. You can see which users are logged in, and you can now search for users by their name, rather than just their email address. There are also changes in admin specific to GreenHopper. Check out the release notes for the full list of changes.
Q: Can you now edit fields directly from the Issue Navigator?
A: Only if you are bulk editing issues. You'll still need to edit individual fields from within the issue browser.
Q: Can you delete a link?
A: Yes - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Linking+Issues#LinkingIssues-Deletingalink
Q: Are the shortcuts in any way browser dependent?
A: These should be universal, as are Gmail's.
Q: can i add watchers, which are not users (e.g just emails?)
A: No, that's not possible. Anyone who gets an email from the system needs to be a user.
Q: You talked about bulk downloads, what about bulk uploads on attachments (ie selecting a number of files at once while in the browse window)?
A: This is not currently possible. You can upload multiple files at a time, you will be provided with additional "Browse" input fields once you have filled one with a file location.
Miscellaneous
Q: Do you have any methodology documents? Meaning, best practices for handling multiple projects and not letting jira's slip through the cracks, etc.
A: We don't have have these types of documents per se, however we do have a bunch of interviews with our customers which go in depth on how they use JIRA in their industries.
Q: Can Jira be installed on a shared hosting? If yes, can you please mention some providers?
A: We maintain a list of alternate hosting providers here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=162718
Q: Are there any plans for a make a desktop JIRA client?
A: I believe a partner already has; we are not planning to build our own. However, we do support a number of IDE connectors.
Q: How do we do this? Use the sandbox?
A: The sandbox is located at http://sandbox.onjira.com
Q: Why isn't Crucible included in the Starter campaign?
A: We may be able to consider that down the road - we have a full explanation here: http://www.atlassian.com/starter/faq.jsp#crucible-why
Q: Can email be customized per project?
A: This is currently a feature request. I encourage you to vote on the request and read some of the comments to get further information - http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-161
