I'm a developer on the Confluence team, and I started at Atlassian in January 2006.

Last year I invested in a Macbook Pro, and I'm pretty impressed so far. My laptop now goes everywhere with me, and I do all my development on it too.

I'm very interested in web development, specifically accessible and semantic site design. Wikis are actually one of the most interesting areas of web development, I believe, because they're a totally new form of content. Blogs came from the idea of personal journals, most static websites look like marketing brochures, but there's nothing comparable to a wiki in the physical world. On a wiki you can create an array of linked and searchable content, then anyone can improve on the words you've written, collaborating on whatever you want.

Below are some of the pages on this wiki where I've made a significant contribution:

As you can probably see, I like writing long-winded and boring ... er, I mean, long and explanatory documentation for some of the more complicated aspects of Confluence's design. If you see any area that could benefit from more documents like this, please let me know.

The Great

Liz and I went to see The Great as part of our yearly subscription to the STC. It was a great (sorry) performance, and I’d strongly recommend going to see it.

I was most impressed by three parts of the show:

  • the young lead actors, Robin McLeavy and Toby Schmitz, were funny and perfectly cast
  • the set, with a rotating room in the middle, was superb at driving the action in several places
  • the on-stage costume changes done by young Catherine (Robin McLeavy) fit so well with the story and kept everyone engaged across scenes.

Well worth checking it out before it finishes on July 13.

I learnt three things from this thread: default resource bundle handling is weird, String.toLowerCase() is locale-aware unlike Character.toLowerCase(), and lowercase Σ isn't always σ.
