I'm a professional geek, working on software architecture, mostly in Java-land, but I have an open point of view. If it works, I'm not going to give you grief.
In a past life, I attended graduate school at the University of Florida in the hopes of explaining the mysteries of DNA, microbial, and viral genetics. These days, I stick with software.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Confluence and Jira. I started an instance of Confluence 1.0 back in 2004 that has grown into a system with tens of thousands of users and nearly half a million pages!
I gave a talk at the 2009 Atlassian Summit on scalability that focused on problems still relevant today in 2011.
