Problem

Jira Issues in your environment need the Resolution field populated.

Resolution

First, identify the Workflow being used by your Project which needs to have the resolution set and perform one of the following:

Resolution Set Using a POST Function

  • This option would be used to set the Resolution automatically to a specified value:
    1. Locate your Workflow: > Issues > Workflows
    2. Click Edit under Actions for your workflow
    3. Select your "Done" transition, and Click POST Functions
    4. Click 'Add POST Function > Select 'Update Issue Field'
    5. Select Resolution for Issue Field and the appropriate Field Value

Resolution Set Using a Screen

  • This option will allow your users to select an application Resolution value when transitioning the issue to the Done status.

    1. Locate your Workflow: > Issues > Workflows
    2. Click Edit under Actions for your workflow
    3. Select your the Done transition and Click Edit

      • (warning) Please note that we are selecting the Done transition and no t the Done status. This is critical as only the transition will give you the option of selecting Screens, the status will only allow you to change the Category.
    4. Select the Resolve Issue Screen for the Screen field

      • By Default, JIRA comes with a 'Resolve Issue Screen'

      • You can certainly use your own Custom Screen, however it is very important that the Resolution Field is only visible on a "Resolve Issue" type screen.  As the Resolution Field is a Required Field, if it is added to a "Default" Screen, newly created or edited issues will be in a Resolved state as the field would be populated by the Default Resolution Value.
    5. You must return to the Workflow page and Publish the draft in order for the changes to go into effect.
