Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Data Center KBs for non-Data-Center-specific features may also work for Server versions of the product, however they have not been tested. Support for Server* products ended on February 15th 2024. For a Jira Data Center installation, you need to setup a shared home directory that is writable by the Jira instances and any future nodes.

There are multiple ways to do this, but the simplest is to use an NFS share. The mechanics of setting one is unique from installation to installation and is outside the scope of this document. We recommend using a UNC file path to your storage location (see more of the NFS recommendation in this article).

Assuming that the final mount point for this shared storage location is /data/jira/sharedhome :

  • Ensure that the directory can be read and written by other potential nodes
  • Copy the following directories into /data/jira/sharedhome: (some of them may be empty)
    • data
    • plugins
    • logos
    • import
    • export
    • keys (if it exists)

$ cp -R /path/to/jira-local-home/{data,plugins,logos,import,export,keys} /data/jira/sharedhome

After the files/directories are copied over to the shared home folder and the node is using it, in order to remove possible (or future) outdated jar files, you can optionally remove them from the /path/to/jira-local-home/plugins folder and subfolders.
