As a Jira administrator, you can create, copy, import, and delete workflows to adapt to the needs of your business processes and teams working in Jira application projects. When you're ready to share a new workflow with your teams, you can associate it with a workflow scheme, which can then be associated with any number of projects.

How to copy an existing workflow

  1. Select the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > Issues.

  2. Click Workflows.
  3. Find the workflow you want to duplicate and click Copy
  4. Enter a new name and description and click Copy
  5. You can then use the workflow editor to add or edit statuses and transitions.

How to add a new workflow

  1. Select the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > Issues.

  2. Click Workflows > Add workflow.
  3. Enter a name and description for the workflow and click Add.
  4. You can then use the workflow editor to add statuses and transitions.

How to use the workflow editor

There are several things you can do within the workflow editor:

Field Description
Diagram/Text Toggles between showing the workflow as a diagram or text
Export Export the workflow to share it with another instance or upload it to the Atlassian Marketplace
Add status A status represents the state of an issue at a specific point in your workflow
Add transition transition is a link between two statuses that enables an issue to move from one status to another. When adding a transition between two statuses, you can choose to associate the transition with a screen to ask for any needed information about this change.

How to delete an issue workflow

You can't delete a workflow that's assigned to a workflow scheme. First remove the workflow from the scheme and then proceed to delete the workflow.

  1. Select the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > Issues.

  2. In the Workflows section, click Workflows.
  3. Find the relevant workflow and click Delete.
