GreenHopper 4.0 Release Notes
6 October 2009The Atlassian team are proud to announce the release GreenHopper 4.0.
GreenHopper 4.0 is the most comprehensive GreenHopper release to date with a wide range of new features, improvements and fixes. We've made a number of changes to improve the usability of GreenHopper including overhauling contexts, improving navigation within GreenHopper as well as extending the List view to allow more fields.
The changes for this release aren't just UI-deep though. We've gotten into the nuts and bolts of GreenHopper and have improved its performance by switching to JQL, introduced compatibility with the JIRA Suite Utilities plugin for Task Board transitions, and have updated the Links Hierarchy Plugin to be JIRA 4.0 compatible.
Furthermore, French, German and UK English translations are included in addition to a revised US English translation. Japanese, Dutch and Spanish translations are due to be included in GreenHopper 4.1 which is scheduled for release in late October.
Upgrading to GreenHopper 4.0 is free for all customers with an active GreenHopper license.

Highlights of GreenHopper 4.0
Multiple Saved Filters within Contexts
GreenHopper 4.0 now gives you even more control when viewing issues by introducing a range of improvements to contexts. You can now select multiple saved filters for a context, multiple assignees and even combine a filter with custom criteria (e.g. show me only the bugs for a particular saved filter).
- Read Using Contexts to Filter and Highlight Issues for more information.
Unlimited Fields in List View
Keep even more information at your fingertips — GreenHopper now allows you to add as many fields as you want when configuring the 'List' view. The 'List' view is ideal for prioritising issues and now you can ensure that you have all the information available to rank an issue appropriately.
- Read configuring the 'List' view for issues in Configuring your Card Styles.
Task Board Transitions Just Got Smarter
The JIRA Suite Utilities plugin provides a useful set of tools for creating workflows. GreenHopper now supports the workflows customised using the JIRA Suite Utilities. For example, if you have added a required field to a transition using the JIRA Suite Utilities, it will display on the transition screen when you transition an issue in GreenHopper. Further, the Task Board transitions also support resolutions per workflow step.
Improvements to the GreenHopper Boards
We've added two new features to the GreenHopper boards to help make working with issues easier in this release of GreenHopper — wiki markup for wiki-rendered fields and the ability to move sub-tasks between issues.
If you have enabled wiki rendering on one or many fields in JIRA, you will be able to use wiki markup in the equivalent fields in GreenHopper cards.
- Read more about enabling wiki rendering in JIRA.
Sub-tasks can now be moved between issues in GreenHopper by simply dragging and dropping the sub-task's card from one issue to another. GreenHopper will automatically update the relevant associations in JIRA.

Kanban is an agile development methodology that aims to assist you in visualising the workflow, limiting the work in progress and measuring lead time for your projects (Kanban vs Scrum - Henrik Kniberg, 3rd April 2009).
GreenHopper 4.0 now gives you have the ability to set multiple constraints on your Task Board columns. When a column exceeds its allocated constraints, it will be highlighted to notify the team.
- Read more about Adding Constraints to your Classic Task Board Columns (Kanban).
Time Tracking Enhancements
JIRA 4.0 allows you to set a Default Unit for time tracking. GreenHopper now adheres to the default time tracking unit set as well.
Further, you can now also manage time spent against a version, with the addition of constraints on statistics in GreenHopper. The 'T. Remaining' statistic now has a minimum and maximum value that you can configure as desired.
- Read more in Configuring Statistics.
We are working hard to improve the look and feel of GreenHopper and bring it in line with the JIRA experience. In GreenHopper 4.0 you will notice that Boards have been moved into the Agile menu, Views into their own menu and a new Tools menu has been created containing User Preferences, Context and the Legend. Furthermore, we've made a number of tweaks to improve navigation in GreenHopper:
- Clicking the progress bar in the Task Board now directs you to issue navigator with the relevant issues.
- Double-clicking an issue in summary or list view now displays the issue in the card view, allowing you to edit it directly, even in the search results.
- Search results are paginated.
