Set up the Collector

You need to use the Collector (optional) if you are using multiple instances of Assets Discovery or if you need to transfer the Result-Data through different network segments (as shown in this Picture).

Setting up the Collector

To set up the Collector:

  1. Extract the Discovery package on the system where you will run the tool. 
  2. Start a command prompt and move to the extracted Discovery folder.
  3. Run the command prompt with Administrator privileges. 

    This will be required to write into the destination folder if you choose "C:\Program Files" or it will be needed to install the Collector tool as a service.

Startup parameters

First you can display the available Commands with "Collector -?"

Run "Collector -s" to configure the Collector-Tool settings.

Possible start parameters



Collector.exeWithout a start up parameter the Collector tool will start a scan with the stored Settings
Collector.exe -sOpen the Collector tool Settings
Collector.exe -vShows the version number of the Collector tool
Collector.exe -i*Installing the Collector tool as a service
Collector.exe -u *Uninstalling the Collector tool service
Collector.exe -resetpasswordReset your password, if you forgot it.

*Only available by using the Discovery Tool on a Windows Environment.

Collector settings

Run "Collector -s" to configure the Collector tool settings. For more info on available settings, see Settings.
