Sign up for Bitbucket Cloud

To start using Bitbucket Cloud, you'll need an Atlassian account. If you don't have one already, we'll help you create one when you sign up for Bitbucket.

If you already have an Atlassian account, we'll join it with your Bitbucket profile, assuming you use the same email address for both. That way, whenever you log into Bitbucket (or any other Atlassian service), you'll be able to use your Atlassian account email address and password.

Signing up for Bitbucket is easy:

  1. Enter an email address, your full name, and a password. From the account creation page, Bitbucket walks you through setting up your profile. After you enter your email address and click Continue, be sure to enter your full name and a password in the two fields under your email address.
  2. Confirm your email address. From your email, open the message from Atlassian and click Verify my email address.
  3. Pick the best username for your profile. Bitbucket opens again, this time asking for a username.

When you pick a username, consider that Bitbucket appends this name to the URL for all repositories you create. For example, if your Username is the_best and you have a repository called awesome_repo, the URL for that repository would be https://bitbucket.org/the_best/awesome_repo.

After clicking Continue, Bitbucket places you in the Dashboard. Across the top of each Bitbucket page is a series of options that let you navigate around Bitbucket. Take a second and look around at the user interface. Try displaying the Bitbucket Keyboard shortcuts by pressing the ? key.

What's next?

Now you can create a repository and get to work. Or you can learn more by taking one of our tutorials with the Bitbucket Tutorials: Teams in Space Training Ground.
