Say goodbye to usernames in Atlassian Cloud
We are removing the username field from user profiles in Atlassian Cloud sites. This means that site admins won't see usernames when they go to Site administration > Users, for example.
We are also removing username support from our product API's. We're making this change as seamlessly as possible, but we encourage you to contact Atlassian support if your core workflows are affected. Usernames will continue to work in the backend in our products (for example with Jira JQL) but will eventually be phased out in favor of display names.
These changes will happen in the background, with no interruption to service.

Why is Atlassian doing this?
Atlassian is making a number of changes to our products and APIs in order to improve user privacy in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We have already rolled out Atlassian account to all Atlassian Cloud users and are working towards a unified profile across all of our cloud products. Atlassian accounts use the email address as the unique identifier, so usernames are a redundant and unnecessary field in user profiles.
What do I need to do?
You don't need to do anything! These changes will happen in the background, with no interruption to service.
When will this happen?
You will begin noticing these changes from June 15, 2018 onwards. We expect the removal of usernames from our Atlassian Cloud products to take a few months to complete.
