Atlassian Cloud changes Jun 25 to Jul 2, 2018

These changes have been made or are being made to your Atlassian Cloud products and services.

Anything with a (star) is new this week.

Changes with a (plus) are steadily rolling out and may not be on your site just yet.

Atlassian Cloud

Your cloud-hosted products are supported by the Atlassian Cloud platform. This section usually includes changes related to multiple Atlassian Cloud products, site administration, and user management.

New platform for outgoing mail (plus)

Jira and Confluence have started to use a new mail platform to deliver outgoing email. This will be rolled out progressively over the coming weeks. For administrators who whitelist IP ranges, you should update the list of IPs that Atlassian mail will be sent from as found on this page: Atlassian Cloud IP ranges and domains

Mail from Jira and Confluence will appear as being sent from the following addresses according to product & region. If you have automation rules that are triggered based on these emails, you may need to update your rules:

  • jira@mail-us.atlassian.net on behalf of Sender <jira@your_instance>
  • jira@mail-eu.atlassian.net on behalf of Sender <jira@your_instance>
  • confluence@mail-us.atlassian.net on behalf of Sender <confluence@your_instance>
  • confluence@mail-eu.atlassian.net on behalf of Sender <confluence@your_instance>

Hiding Usernames in User Management (plus)

We're phasing out the use of usernames, as we introduce unified profiles based on Atlassian accounts across all of our cloud products. This current change means that you won't see usernames when you go to Site administration > Users, but ongoing work will remove support for usernames elsewhere in future. For more information and updates on these changes, you can watch this blog post.

Confluence

Confluence Discard Changes (star)

The new ellipses menu is here, with a bunch of handy features underneath it. You'll now find Preview and View Changes here, as well as the ability to discard. If you're working on a draft, you'll see a Delete unpublished page/blog post button, which will permanently delete that page or blog post. If you're working on some unpublished changes, the button will let you Revert to last published version. Note that any deletions will apply not just to the changes you've made, but to the changes that anyone has made - so if you do want to only delete what you've done, try the undo button instead!

Invite to edit experience (star)

You can now invite other people to edit your page with you, from inside the Confluence editor. Hit the plus sign on the top right of your page. Copy and share the link, or add in your collaborators' names to invite them via Confluence notifications.

Show drafts in Recently Worked On tab on Confluence Dashboard (star)

When you create or edit a page, but don't publish your changes, you need to be able to find your work easily so you can continue editing and publish. Drafts (pages that have never been published) and pages with your unpublished changes now appear in Recently worked on in the sidebar.

Atlassian profile and people directory (plus)

We're bringing the new Atlassian profile to Confluence. Soon you'll have a single profile for all the Atlassian products you use on your site, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. To do this, we've consolidated the information in your Atlassian account and your Confluence profile and removed or replaced redundant fields. We've also moved the profile tab out of Settings and into the menu you access from your avatar.

Finally, we've deprecated the Confluence people directory and replaced it with a one that works across all your Atlassian products. You can access the new people directory via the App Switcher.

Blogs are getting the first round of editing improvements (plus)

If you've ever thought 'I wish it was easier to read blogs on mobile.... or on other devices', then this change is for you. Blogs are getting fixed-width layouts to improve readability across all devices. We're making a bunch of other updates to improve editing reliability and clean up your editing experience, so some macros may be temporarily unavailable while they're under maintenance. You can read more about these changes on our docs site.

Space settings has moved (plus)

Space settings has a new home. It's still in the sidebar, but it's moving up in the world, and now lives under the space name. To find it, click the down arrow next your space name, then click the cog icon. Feel free to poke around and get to know its new neighborhood!

All collaborators now get credited as page authors (plus)

The person who starts a page isn't necessarily the same person who finishes it, and if more than one person have been working on something together, we think they all deserve credit for what they created. That's why we're changing the byline on Confluence pages so that they now include all the collaborators, not just the person who first created them.

Meeting notes are getting a makeover (plus)

We're continuing to work on improving your editing experience, and next in line for an upgrade is meeting notes. In addition to being faster and more reliable, your new meeting notes are also responsive, optimized for readability, and have advanced tables. Some macros are still temporarily missing as we rebuild them, but you can check the list and find more details on all of these changes from our docs site.

Jira Service Desk

Customize the customer invitation email (star) (plus)

You can now customize the email your customers receive when you invite them to your Jira Service Desk portal. Project administrators can make this change in Project settings > Customer notifications.

New design for Automation rule building (plus)

You'll be able to automate your repetitive tasks easier than ever with our new rule building for Automation. Check it out by editing one of your existing rules, browsing some new pre-configured rules we've just added, or building your own custom rule.

Jira Software

We're rolling out a new type of project and a new global permission. By default, any licensed user can create their own independent project. These projects don't affect existing Jira projects or shared configurations. You can manage who's allowed to create independent projects with the new Create independent projects global permission. Read more about independent projects.

New issue view for Jira Software (plus)

Get a consistent view and edit experience with our new issue view for Jira Software. Click an issue to see its details, edit any field with a click, and add content with the quick-add buttons (under the issue summary). We're rolling this out gradually, so you may not see it on your site just yet. Take a look at the documentation for more info and watch the page to be updated when we release new features.

We're adding new features and refining the design all the time, so click Give feedback on the issue view to let us know what you think.

New issue view: full-page issue view (plus)

The new Jira issue view, which we already released for boards and the backlog, is now here for the full-page issue view. Quickly add attachments and subtasks, link issues, and click to edit any field you see. Check out this page for more info.

New issue view: Open issues as a sidebar on boards

By popular demand: open the new issue view as a sidebar on your boards. If you're a team lead and need to view lots of issues in quick succession, or you need to see a selected issue and the board at the same time, this one's for you.

From a board, choose ••• > Open issues in sidebar. This sets your preference for all boards (you can switch back at any time). You can even adjust the width of the issue sidebar—drag it out far enough on your super-wide screen and get the full two-column issue view in a sidebar.

New issue view: Anyone can try it out

If you haven't tried the new Jira issue view for Jira Software boards and backlogs yet, but would like to, you can now turn it on by going to your avatar > Profile. Flick the switch for the New Jira issue view under Labs to turn it on.

Once you've had a chance to use it, hit Give feedback on an issue to let us know what you think. Your feedback will help us deliver the best issue experience in Jira.

Jira platform

Changes in this section usually apply to all Jira products. We'll tell you in the change description if something is only for a specific Jira product.

Preview how to manage issue types in your independent agility projects (plus)

Check out the new issue type settings to get a sneak peek into how you'll customize your independent projects. Soon, you'll be able to set up your own issue types and customize their workflows and fields. Let us know what you think!

New Jira experience: Updated project issue navigator (plus)

As part of the new Jira experience, we've updated the project issue navigator. There's a new, cleaner design, and it includes the new Jira issue view to help you quickly find and update important issue info.

Check it out by navigating to your project and selecting Issues in the sidebar.

Note: Create issue, list sorting, and navigation with keyboard shortcuts aren't available in the new navigator just yet, but we hope to add them very soon. The + in the sidebar is always there for when you need to create new issues.

Invite users directly from your independent agility projects (plus)

Trying to add someone new to your project? If they aren't already on your Jira site, you can invite them to join directly from the People page in your independent project settings. Currently, we're trying this out on agility projects.

Switch and search for boards in your project's sidebar (plus)

We improved the board switcher in your project's sidebar. Now, you can switch between the boards in your current project and recent boards from other projects. And, you can search for boards across your entire Jira site.

To try it out, select your board's name in your project's sidebar.

New issue view: Time tracking improvements

Update remaining time on an issue without needing to log time in the new issue view. Open an issue and choose ••• > Log time or click the Time tracking panel on the issue.

Bug fix: Deleting labels custom fields (plus)

This fixes a problem where deleting a custom field of the type label would move any labels in the custom field over to the Labels system field. See JRACLOUD-68003 for more info.
