Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Create new plans with ease

It’s never been easier to create a plan with relevant issues for your planning needs. With the new plan creation wizard, we’ve streamlined the process and redesigned the look and feel. We’ve also added new pages to the Configure menu so you can easily edit the plan’s scope at any time.

Add custom fields to all your screens in Jira

ROLLING OUT

You no longer have to check each and every screen to associate it with a custom field. We’ve introduced a checkbox on the custom field screen association page so that you can add your custom fields to all the screens on your instance. Learn more about adding a custom field to a screen.

Additionally, you can search for the screens by their names to narrow down the list of screens to associate them to the custom field.

New issue view: Estimates for time tracking apps

ROLLING OUT

The new issue view now displays a field for the estimated time remaining when you use time tracking apps. To try it out, install your favorite time tracking app, go to an issue, and check it out yourself.

New Issue View: Add web links to images

In the new issue view’s editor, you can now add web links to images. This means that when you’re adding an image to a field or comment, you have the option to add a web link to the image too. When someone clicks an image with a web link, a new tab with the associated URL will be opened.

Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Selective Scheduling

ROLLING OUT

Along with helping create an entire plan, you can now tell the Auto-scheduler to only schedule specific issues.

To use this new feature, select which issues you want Advanced Roadmaps to automatically schedule using the checkboxes in the Scope section of your plan. Then use the auto-scheduler like normal and it will only work its magic on those issues.

Additionally, we’ve renamed our project types (next-gen and classic) to make them clearer and more descriptive:

  • Next-gen projects are now named team-managed projects. The functionality itself remains the same and continue to be ideal for independent teams who want to control their own working processes and practices in a self-contained space.
  • Classic projects are now named company-managed projects. Setup and maintained by Jira admins, company-managed projects remain the best choice for teams who want to work with other teams across many projects in a standard way, such as sharing a workflow.

Replacing the media picker with your system's file upload

We're removing the media picker dialog, which appears when you click the Files and images button in Bitbucket Cloud, Confluence Cloud, and Jira Cloud products, and replacing it with your system’s built-in file upload dialog. We’ve observed that very few people use the media picker, with most people preferring to drag and drop or paste files onto pages and issues. You’ve also shared feedback with us that, in some cases, the media picker doesn’t work the way you’d like it to.

Importantly, you can still link to files from services like Dropbox and Google Drive. Paste a link on your page or issue and we’ll create a handy smart link to it so the latest version is always available.

Improved look and feel when starting a new Jira Software, Opsgenie, or Statuspage trial

We’re gradually rolling out some improvements to your experience when starting a trial from within an Atlassian product. There will be more accurate information and an improved look when starting a trial for Jira Software, Opsgenie, or Statuspage. Functionally, starting a trial is staying the same.

Improved security for the Get Filters REST endpoint

ROLLING OUT

We’ve rolled out a security patch to keep your data safe from anonymous access while using the deprecated Get Filters REST API. This REST API will no longer return your project names and owner information to unauthenticated users.

New issue view: Save time configuring multiple projects by copying field layouts

COMING SOON

No more duplicate field configuration work for admins! Jira admins can now copy field layouts for the new issue view in one project to any other that uses the same screen.

More specifically, in Jira Software Cloud, an issue layout can be copied to other projects that use the same screen. And In Jira Service Management Cloud, a request type's layout can be copied to other request types (including those in other projects) that use the same screen.

New issue view: Comment bar now adjusts depending on activity sort

ROLLING OUT

In the new issue view's activity section, the comment bar will now automatically adjust positions depending on whether you sort activity by oldest or newest first. In particular, we now ensure that you can always comment right above or below the newest comment. This means that when you're updating your team, you'll always have the latest context right in front of you.

Jira Software

From March 31, 2021, we’ll begin moving all users to the new issue view in Jira Cloud products (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, and Jira Core). Shortly after that, we’ll remove access to the old issue view. We’ve made great improvements to the new issue view in the past year and will continue to make it better before we remove the old one. For key dates, what’s next, and more details, check out our official announcement.

Enhanced release notes functionality

Access the enhanced release notes functionality by navigating to Releases > Version > Release notes. The revised Release notes page in your Jira Software project provides you with the following options:

  • Create release notes in the markdown format
  • Regenerate release notes based on layout and issue types
  • Format and update release notes in the editor
  • Copy the release notes to the clipboard

Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Create new plans with ease

Anonymous access check for Jira Site Import

ROLLING OUT

This new security check will notify in advance if projects, dashboards, and filters are prone to anonymous access post migration. Anonymous access means that the data will be available to the public and searchable online. You can choose whether or not to grant public access before the migration.

To review affected projects, dashboards, and filters, you can download the .csv file.

Connect Jira and Confluence with project pages improvements

We’ve renamed the “pages” feature in Jira Software to “project pages” and made some improvements so it’s easier to use and understand.

Project pages keeps your documentation in one place by connecting your Jira Software project with a Confluence space. If Confluence isn’t on your site yet, site admins can start a free trial in-product using the project pages feature on the left navigation panel.

Pages from the connected space will be organized in the project pages feature in Jira. All page organization and permissions from Confluence will be retained. Users with the appropriate permissions can use project pages to create Confluence pages and view any existing documentation.

Next-gen: Assign multiple statuses to a single column

ROLLING OUT

Like humans and their dogs, or keyboards and computers, columns and statuses have always been inseparable.

Until now. (Kinda.)

This feature gives you the ability to add more than one status to a single column. This supercharged, board-sorting experience means you can group together similar statuses and free up your board. It also means you can drop work into a new status, within the same column.

Less scroll. A neater board. And advanced config—this could be the best separation in a long time.

Enhanced invite visibility

Add your teammates from the People menu in the top navigation of Confluence and Jira Software.

Allow users to join Confluence from project pages

If your site has Jira and Confluence active, users with the appropriate permissions can use the project pages feature in Jira to get access to Confluence and find documentation and content that’s relevant to them.

Next-gen: Time estimation is on its way

The whole shebang isn’t ready just yet, but that’s no reason to hold out on what we do have.

For now, you can add the original estimate field to your issues, estimate the time that work will take, and do a JQL query to find specifics related to time.

To add the original estimate field:

  1. If you’re not there, navigate to your next-gen project.
  2. From your project sidebar, select Project settings.
  3. In Project settings, select Issue types.
  4. In the Fields panel, select Original estimate.
  5. Drag, then drop the field where you’d like it to appear.
  6. Save, close, and estimate away!

Get started quicker with the 'Quickstart' panel

Knowing what to do first when you create a new kind of project can be tricky. That’s why we’ve introduced the Quickstart panel - a handy side panel filled with easy-to-follow steps and links to documentation to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

If you’d rather look at it later, then simply select Close Quickstart at the bottom of the panel - you can always open it back up through your Settings (cog) in the top right.

Enhanced view of knowledge base articles for agents

Your agents can now get a better view of knowledge base articles. Images in your articles will expand when you select them and videos can be played inline. We’ve also made many more improvements in styling and formatting to match the Confluence experience.

Control when your page or blog gets published

ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEK

Sometimes a page or blog needs to published at the right moment to coincide with a project start, a product release, or a company announcement. Rather than relying on a calendar reminder or a sticky note, you can schedule it in Confluence.

Before you publish the first time or the twenty-first time, you can set the date and time by going to ••• > Schedule publish. No notifications are sent to those you’ve mentioned or those watching the page, blog, or the space until the content is actually published.

To make it really clear that the page or blog is set to be published at a certain day and time, the Publish button will change to Scheduled. A [ PUBLISH SCHEDULED ] indicator will be displayed at the top of the page and next to the page title in your list of Recent pages.

Use anchor macros in the new editor

NEW THIS WEEK

The Anchor macro is available in both editing experiences!

You can add a target to a page or blog so that a link can be created that jumps to that part of the page. This is useful when you want a link to take the reader to an image, row in a table, or paragraph.

Managing global permissions just got easier

ROLLING OUT

We’ve upgraded the global permissions page to make it easier for site and product admins to read and make changes to these site-level permissions.

Now there are no more dense tables to pore through! We’ve reorganized the page into tabs by type of user — User groups, JSM access, Anonymous access, and Apps — and refreshed the look within each tab to make the information cleaner and easier to scan.

We’ve also added the ability to filter lists by permission type granted. For example, if you want to see all user groups that have permission to create spaces on your site, you can click on the Filters button next to the search bar and select the box for Create space.

Finally, we made the groups expandable, so you can see exactly which individual users are members.

New spaces are assigned a random icon

To help people visually distinguish one space from another, the default icon assigned to a space will be chosen at random rather than every new space being assigned the same folder image. Space creators can change that default icon or upload their own. Existing spaces are unaffected by this change.

Modernized move page dialog

Moving your published pages and blogs is an important decision. To help you feel more confident when doing this, the experience has been simplified and updated. A link to our product documentation was also added to support you in digging deeper into the details of the behavior.

People listed in page restrictions display alphabetically

We’ve made it easier to peruse the lists of people in page restrictions. They’re alphabetical by the first letter of the person’s first name. So if you’re looking for someone in particular in a long list, you can hone in on them much more quickly by using where their name falls in the alphabet. It’s also much easier to tell if someone’s missing from the list.

View pages in your space differently

Looking at the pages in a space as a tree is great when the relationships between pages are important to you, but now you have more options for how you view the pages in a space!

View pages differently by selecting ••• next to Pages in the space sidebar. Switching to another view removes the tree relationship and gives you a list of pages sorted by the date the page was last updated or alphabetically by title. The choice you make in a space persists until you change it.

Confluence Mobile: View notification settings on Android

You can now view and edit your push notification settings right in the Confluence mobile app.

Edit content faster

When you see pages and blogs in your Recent menu in the Confluence navigation or on the Home page, you can jump into editing your content faster. Select the edit icon next to the name of the page to open the editing experience.

This action is already available on the page cards you see if you select Pages in a space sidebar.
