Free cloud migration trials – previously known as extended cloud trials – last longer than a standard trial and help your organization migrate your self-managed server and Data Center products to cloud over time.
Our goal is to make sure your cloud migration goes as smoothly as possible, without worrying about double-paying for licenses or rushing through testing. Learn more about the benefits of signing up for a cloud migration trial.
Who's eligible for a cloud migration trial
Cloud migration trials are available at no cost to server and Data Center customers. The trials are associated with an existing Support Entitlement Number (SEN), and align with your existing maintenance period. This means they’ll finish when your maintenance or subscription runs out (at a maximum of 12 months).
Your trial will match your current user tier, up to a max of 10,000 users. If you have more than 10,000 users and want to try our cloud products, contact us to get started.
Cloud migration trials are only one option for trying a cloud product. Our team will work with your organization’s needs to ensure you can trial the products you want and avoid duplicate services for your cloud and self-managed products.
To see which is right for you, Confluence, Jira Software, and Jira Service Desk let you trial Standard and Premium plans, and Jira Core offers a Standard plan trial. To try an Enterprise plan, contact our team by filling out our contact form.
How it works
Atlassian’s cloud migration trial is free and doesn’t require a credit card or payment information during the trial. Cloud migration trials are versatile and meant to help your organization throughout your migration journey.
Typically, we see customers use them for:
Tour: Use your free cloud migration trial to explore cloud, test differences in functionality, and try out new cloud features.
Proof of concept: Cloud migration trials can also be used as a proof of concept for migration, used to set up initial projects, or build your business case with internal stakeholders.
Test: Finally, you can use this trial to run multiple test migrations in a full production environment, without any limitations. This is highly recommended.
Available products and plans
Free cloud migration trials are available for:
Jira Service Desk
Confluence, Jira Software, and Jira Service Desk offer Standard and Premium plans. Jira Core is exclusively available on a Standard plan.
You can add a cloud migration to:
a Standard or Premium cloud trial.
an existing Free cloud plan.
an existing cloud domain with no products enabled.
a new cloud site.
You can’t add a cloud migration trial to an existing paid cloud plan.
You may receive an email from Atlassian with a unique signup link. Be careful not to forward this link, as it can be claimed by anybody inside or outside of your organization.
Activate your trial
The signup screen for a cloud migration trial can be reached in two ways. You can:
Go to my.atlassian.com (Manual, if not using the migration assistant)
Navigate from inside the migration assistant (Can be performed as part of a migration).
For navigating from my.atlassian.com:
Navigate to my.atlassian.com →
Expand the relevant server or Data Center license.
In the extended cloud trial offer box, click Start my trial.
Follow the signup screen to create a new cloud site, or select an existing site to apply your extended trial offer.
For navigating from inside the migration assistant:
While using the migration assistant, work through the steps until you reach the Connect to cloud screen.
Click Get Confluence/Jira Cloud trial.
The migration assistant will automatically take you to set up your extended cloud trial license.
If you plan to start a cloud migration trial for multiple products (e.g. Jira Software and Confluence), they must be done one at a time.
For example, this means you’ll complete the full trial signup process for Jira Software, then once the site is created you can start again for Confluence.
When you go through signup for Confluence, you'll now be able to select the site URL that you created for Jira Software.
Naming your cloud site
Site names are chosen for an entire Atlassian cloud site at the time you sign up for your first product – for example, when you first sign up for Jira Software Cloud or Confluence Cloud.
The format for the site name is https://example.atlassian.net, where example is a unique character string that you specify.
There are a few things to be aware of when choosing your site name:
Your unique character string must be at least three characters.
It can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens.
Hyphens can't be the first or last character.
If you need to change your site name after your cloud site is provisioned, you’ll need to contact the support team.

If you have a cloud migration trial running and want to continue your Access trial, contact us to extend your Access trial if needed.
How long is the cloud migration trial?
Your cloud migration trial can last a maximum of 12 months. Cloud migration trials are associated with a Support Entitlement Number (SEN), so it aligns with your existing maintenance period. The trial will finish when your maintenance runs out (at a maximum of 12 months). If you have fewer than 60 days remaining on your server maintenance or Data Center subscription, or if you have lapsed/expired maintenance, you can still get a free 60-day cloud trial.
How many cloud migration trials am I eligible for?
Each cloud migration trial is associated with a server license or Data Center subscription and can only be activated once per SEN. If you own multiple self-managed licenses, you can activate separate cloud migration trials for each.
If I reset my cloud site, will I lose my cloud migration trial?
No, when resetting (deleting/reactivating a cloud subscription), the cloud migration trial will automatically carry over as long as it’s still valid and hasn’t expired.
How does billing work with cloud migration trials?
Your billing details are not required for cloud migration trials. At the end of your trial, you’ll need to select a monthly or annual billing cycle to continue using cloud.
If you’re a monthly customer, you’ll get an email seven days before your trial ends to add your billing information. Once billing details are added, your cloud trial will continue on a monthly payment plan.

What happens to my data if I choose not to subscribe after my cloud migration trial expires?
If you don’t subscribe at the end of your trial, you’ll be unsubscribed from all products and your data will be deleted after 15 days. For more details, visit our Data Storage FAQ.
If I’m not ready to start a cloud trial, will this offer expire? When should I start my cloud migration trial by?
Since this offer is matched to your existing self-managed maintenance/subscription period, it’s recommended you start as soon as possible to maximize the value of your cloud migration trial.
Is your server license or maintenance already expired? You can still migrate with a 60-day cloud migration trial.
