Determine if you need to upgrade
If your self-hosted license and maintenance have expired, you can still migrate to cloud at no added cost.
In most cases, you should be able to move directly to cloud from your current self-hosted site. If you’re on an older self-hosted version, you may need to upgrade to a newer version before you can migrate. Find out which versions are supported for Jira and Confluence.
How to upgrade
If you're on an unsupported version and don't have active maintenance on your self-hosted license (which is needed to upgrade), you can use a free trial license to upgrade in preparation for the migration.
Basically, this entails signing up for a free server or Data Center evaluation, moving your current server to the new evaluation license, and migrating from there:
Use that evaluation license to set up a new instance on the latest self-hosted version.
Import your existing server instance into the new instance.
Then migrate from your new, upgraded server instance to your cloud site.
Note that server evaluation licenses last for 30 days. If you need more time to complete your migration, no problem – they can be extended to 90 days upon request.
