Symptoms

You have JIRA Cloud and want to integrate with HipChat. However, when attempting to activate HipChat in either Marketplace or under the Billing section in User Management, you get the message that accountname.hipchat.com is already in use (where as accountname would typically preface with the Cloud name).  

Cause

A HipChat account already exists with that account name.  This could be someone from your existing organization, or an unrelated one.  You can file a support request at https://help.hipchat.com and the HipChat Support Engineer can help determine that and get you to the administrator if it is someone in your organization.

Resolution

  • Request that the individual invite you and/or other members to the account by following the info here
