'Unknown User' in Confluence after migration

Symptom

When a user performs a Confluence server to cloud migration (or brings over spaces and pages from a cloud site or server instance), the authors of some pages and inline comments show as 'Unknown User' (<username>).

Cause

This will happen when some users are migrated via .csv after the initial migration is completed. This is usually due to users being managed by LDAP, AD, etc. in server. Please note that this can also occur if content is brought over from either a cloud site or server instance and the initial content creation username has changed.

Resolution

As the resolution for this issue will require database modification, contact Atlassian Support for assistance.
