Problem

When migrating from Jira Server to Jira Cloud via XML backup import, the import will fail. The following error appears in the screen :

There was an error importing file CSSSRB-765.zip: Validation failed. Following issues were reported:
[GenericDelegator.makeValue] could not find entity for entityName: CommentVersion

Diagnosis

Environment

  • Jira Server 8.9.0

Cause

The import failure s due to the usage of new tables in Jira Server that is not needed in Jira Cloud which causes the import to break. The tables are :

  • IssueVersion

  • CommentVersion

  • WorklogVersion

Workaround

To remedy this issue, the workaround is as provided below :

  • Unzip the Server Backup. There will be two files entities.xml and activeobjects.xml.

  • In the entities.xml file, search and remove these entries:

    • IssueVersion

    • CommentVersion

    • WorklogVersion

  • Once removed, save the entities.xml file and zip it together with activeobjects.xml.

  • Perform the restoration once again in Cloud.
