Confluence Cloud editor roadmap

The new editor has loads of great improvements, and we redesigned other features to:

  • Support more use cases

  • Solve deeper problems

  • Make them easier to master

The new editor has many features you’ll recognize, and we’re working to add more new features. However, not all features that were in the legacy editor will be in the new editor. We'll evaluate features on a case-by-case basis to decide if some of the discontinued features from the legacy editor will be brought into the new experience.

To find out more about macros that were removed and replaced along with alternate methods for accomplishing certain tasks, check this page.

Keep in mind that you'll have the option to continue to create pages in the legacy editor.  However, there are some downsides to continuing to use the legacy editor:

  • No bugs fixed in the legacy editor unless it's a major incident

  • No enhancements made to the legacy editor

All new features and enhancements are made to the the new editor.

If you have a Confluence instance full of pages created using the legacy editor, you have the option to convert those pages to the new editor. We won’t be converting your pages for you because we know that you know your content best and can decide when it’s the best time to convert your content.

Since there are some differences in the capabilities available in the legacy editor and those in the new editor, we want to make it abundantly clear what will happen to your content when you convert a page.

Our goal is to allow you to convert your pages from the legacy editor to the new editor without data loss and with little to no changes to the look and feel of the content.

When the page conversion functionality is available in your Confluence instance, you can pick and choose which pages get converted and when. You'll also have the option to preview any page before converting it. We want you to feel comfortable with the process. You'll also have the chance to restore a page to its previous, legacy editor version after conversion.

To learn more about the page conversion process, go to Converting pages to the new editor.

Which editor does your page use?

You can see which editor your page uses by looking at the differences in the editor toolbar.

  • The New editor: Includes Publish… or Update and Close buttons in the top menu and the emoji icon

  • The Legacy editor: Has earlier versions of text-color picker and page formatting

Feature comparison

The new editor has loads of great improvements. When improvements are made, you replace things and get rid of others. Many familiar features are available in the new editor, some are being worked on, and others won't be available.

This table compares the features of both editors. If a feature is planned for the new editor, you'll find our short- and long-term plan for it as well as any Confluence Cloud Support requests we are already tracking.
