HipChat: Guest access features

What are Guest access features of HipChat?

Non-HipChat users can also be integrated into rooms in order to chat with your HipChat users and it's what we call "guest access".

In summary:

  • Guests can access HipChat when you provide them a URL from 'web client' only. This means they can access HipChat through their browser but not through a desktop or mobile client.
  • You can turn on/off guest room access only via the web client or desktop clients (not available to toggle through mobile clients).
  • Guest can only see chat and sent file history starting at the point they join the room and cannot see history. If they log out and log back in, they will also not see any history including their own previous chats.
  • Either the HipChat group member (user defined in your group) or the guest can initiate or join existing video call including screen share.

For information on guest access, have a look at this document.
