JIRA Software: Configuring your Boards
Objective
How do I configure boards in JIRA Software?
Environment
Server/Cloud
Procedure
General Information:
Configuring a board allows you to:
- Edit mapping workflow statuses to columns of a board
- Edit the columns, swim lanes, and quick filters of a board
- Customize the card colors and displayed issue fields
You can either map boards to projects or filters. Your board's filter is an issue filter (a JQL query) that specifies which issues need to include on your board. For example, your board may include issues from multiple projects, or from only one project, or from a particular part of a project.
Configuring columns:
The Active sprints of a Scrum board and a Kanban board display vertical columns. The default columns in the Active sprints of a Scrum board are 'To Do', 'In Progress', and 'Done'. On a Kanban board, the default columns are 'Backlog', 'Selected for Development', 'In Progress', and 'Done'. You can either add, delete, rename or move these columns if you wish. You can also choose which JIRA workflow status (es) each column is mapped to and whether any constraints apply to each column.
By default, a board's columns are mapped to the default JIRA statuses. But you can edit mapping JIRA workflow statuses to a column of a board if you wish to. For example, if you are using many customized JIRA statuses, you will probably want to map them to suitable columns in your board. You can either add or delete the status on your board. Refer to the link for more information on Configuring columns.

Note: You must be a JIRA administrator or a board administrator for the board to change its configuration.
