After upgrade Dashboard does not render properly and information is missing from the Dashboard

Problem
After an upgrade to Confluence 5.9.x the dashboard is not rendered correctly and some gadgets are missing eg: team calendar upcoming event .
The look and feel of the dashboard is still reflected as it was in Confluence 5.8.x and does not show the fresh new dashboard which comes with Confluence 5.9.x.
Diagnosis
Diagnostic Steps
Check if there are any customization to the Global layout . This an be found at General Configuration >> Layouts >> Global Layout .
If Documentation theme is being used please switch to Default theme and check for custom layouts.
Cause
The applied custom layouts are no more compatible with the newer versionConfluenceence and need to be made compatible.
Workaround
Back up the existing layout and reset the customized layout to Default.by clicking on Reset Default next to the custom layout
