Symptoms

'Edit In Office' functionality doesn't work for some of the computers running on IE10. When clicking the 'Edit In Office' link, nothing happens. However, the issue doesn't happen in other browsers. This could happen after installing Microsoft Office 2010 SP2. 

Diagnosis

Several steps can be tried to narrow down the cause of the issue:

  • Enable IE safe mode by clicking START and typing iexplore -extoff
  • Turn on/off the IE Compatibility mode
  • Revert the IE Security Level to default under "Options"
  • Turn off any firewall and Anti-Virus
  • Add Confluence URL as a trusted site
  • Reset IE10 to its default setting (steps)

Cause

It's caused by the IE AddOn SharePoint OpenDocuments that become dysfunctional after an installation of Microsoft Office 2010 SP2. The real cause is still unknown.

Resolution

Reinstall the SharePoint Connectivity Document (Microsoft SharePoint Foundation) on the affected computers. (you may request this installation package to Microsoft Support)
