When visiting the Licenses screen from the my.atlassian.com to view you licenses, you may notice the license key shown here differs from the license message displayed in the confluence.cfg.xml, under the property "<property name="confluence.license.message">"

The confluence license message from the confluence.cfg.xml may not display the exact license key as per displayed in the my.atlassian.com. The license message displayed in the confluence.cfg.xml is a encrypted version of the actual license key that you see in the my.atlassian,com. This is a confluence mechanism so that confluence license will not be able to grabbed directly from the hardware. The breakdown is as follows:

  • License key: is the actual license from my.atlassian.com
  • License message: contains an encrypted version of the license key
  • License hash: contains a message that encrypts the license key to become the license message
