Symptoms

While trying to edit an user or group, the following message appears on the screen:

The following appears in the atlassian-crowd.log:

Cause

The directory that the user/group is stored is not configured to allow modification. See more details about permissions here.

Resolution

In order to allow user/group modification, the following permissions need to be given to the User Directory:
