GreenHopper 5.0 Release Notes

10 June 2010

The Atlassian team are proud to announce the release of GreenHopper 5.0.

Working with GreenHopper is now simpler and faster. A revised user interface addresses the most common customer request, namely that GreenHopper look and behave more like JIRA. Smart drag-and-drop allows you to place cards at an exact position within the pagination of the Planning Board, and inline editing is available in all views ('Summaries', 'Cards' and 'List'). Further, common actions - comment, assign, log work - are available via a drop-down on every card.

Kanban users can now utilise both minimum and maximum column constraints, clearly identifying spare capacity or bottlenecks in the workflow. Flow-based teams are assisted when pulling work across the Task Board via a notification.

Release Charts are now generated dynamically, enabling a version to be released whilst carrying on unfinished work in the next iteration. Statistics for cards that are moved on are now captured in both the released and the next iteration. To track the progress of your iteration, and identify velocity for forward planning, the version summary has been added to both the Chart and Released Board.

Upgrading to GreenHopper 5.0 is free for all customers with an active GreenHopper license.

Quick Filters

GreenHopper 5.0 introduces a 'Quick Filters' bar, grouping existing issues and enabling you to quickly filter the displayed issues by:

  • 'Only My Issues' — Only display issues which are assigned to you.
  • 'Hide Sub-Tasks' — Only display issues which are not sub-tasks of other issues.
  • 'Only Pending Issues' — Only display issues which have not yet been scheduled.

Refer to Using Classic Planning Board Views for more information about how to use these filters when viewing issues.

Drag and drop pagination

GreenHopper 5.0 allows you to place card(s) at an exact position on a Planning Board that has multiple pages (pagination).

Kanban Improvements

Kanban users can now specify a minimum constraint, in addition to the pre-existing maximum constraint. A column which falls below one or more specified minimum constraints will be highlighted in yellow to indicate spare capacity in your team and that additional cards can be pulled in to that column.

Additionally, descriptions at the top of each column identify what constraint, if any, has been 'Busted'.

Unlimited Assignees on the Planning Board

In previous versions of GreenHopper, 'Assignee' mode was not available on the Planning Board for projects with more than 75 assignable users.

If you run very large projects, you will be pleased to hear that this restriction has now been removed, and the 'Assignee' mode is now always available on the Planning Board. We recommend that you create a group for your assignable users per project, ensuring you only see those users relevant to the project.

Carry On Work

With GreenHopper 5.0 teams can now carry on work across sprints with confidence their statistics (Story Points, for instance) will be retained in the correct versions. Story Points will be 'burned' in the Released version, but the issue itself will be used for generating metrics for both the released and unreleased version it is included in. The Released Board now has a release mechanism for generating dynamic charts, meaning that static charts will no longer be stored on the filesystem (although backwards compatibility is assured — see the GreenHopper 5.0 Upgrade Guide for details).
