Bitbucket Data Center sends requests to btf-analytics S3 URL

Summary

Bitbucket Data Center sends requests to the following URL: https://btf-analytics.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/
This may raise some security concerns.

Environment

This was confirmed in Bitbucket DC version 7.21.6, but other versions are likely to behave in the same way.

Cause

These requests are sent by the Atlassian Analytics plugin.

Solution

If you do not want Bitbucket DC to send requests to this URL, you can proceed as follows:

  1. Log into the web interface of Bitbucket DC as System Admin,
  2. Navigate to Administration > Analytics
  3. Switch the radio button next to Atlassian Analytics to Disabled,
  4. Click Save.

Bitbucket DC should stop sending requests to the aforementioned URL.
