'Content Encoding Error' When Using Left Hand Navigation Theme in Confluence 4.x
Symptoms
After upgrading to Confluence 4.x, entire spaces will not render properly. In the user interface you may receive an error stating 'The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.'.
The following appears in the atlassian-confluence.log:

Cause
This may be due to the Left Navigation Theme which is not compatible with the 4.x series of Confluence and has no plans to be added to the 4.x series
Resolution
Remove the Left Hand Navigation theme plugin from Confluence.
