'java.io.IOException No space left on device' due to disk space

Summary

User is unable to create pages, create spaces, upload attachments, or add any content to Confluence.

Environment

Confluence Server or Data Center (any version).

Diagnosis

The following message appears in the atlassian-confluence.log:

atlassian-confluence.log
ERROR [DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-7] [org.quartz.core.JobRunShell] run Job DEFAULT.IndexQueueFlusher threw an 
unhandled Exception: com.atlassian.bonnie.LuceneException: com.atlassian.bonnie.LuceneException: 
java.io.IOException: No space left on device

Cause

This error is triggered if there is no space left in the directory which contains the Confluence Home folder.

Usually happens in large instances with a high number of pages being created.


Solution

If the directory is full and you are unable to allocate more space, you may wish to change the location of your home directory to somewhere where there is space available.
