Customers who use the trackbacks functionality in JIRA should be aware that trackbacks will no longer be a supported feature in JIRA 5.0.

Trackbacks are being replaced with a Remote Issue Links
Remote Issue Links allow users to add a link to any URL from a JIRA issue. For external applications, there is a simple REST API for Remote Issue Links to add a link to a JIRA issue, and JIRA plugins can use the Remote Issue Links Java API.

For customers who used trackbacks to link from a Confluence Page to a JIRA Issue, this will be supported by Confluence 4.1 and JIRA 5.0 using Remote Issue Links:  adding a JIRA issue key to a Confluence page will automatically create a Remote Issue Link from the JIRA Issue back to the Confluence page.  As a part of the upgrade to JIRA 5.0, any trackback URLs will be migrated to Remote Issue Links.

In addition, Remote Issue Links will support links from one JIRA instance to another JIRA instance, so an issue on a JIRA instance can be linked as a duplicate of an issue on another JIRA instance, making the use of multiple JIRA instances much more valuable. End Users can also now more easily add links from a JIRA issue to any external URL.

Remote Issue Links also provides a greater level of security. Both in the UI as well as via the API, links can only be created by users who have the Link Issue permission, which prevents the anonymous spam that often occurs with trackbacks.

Those actively paying attention will recall that we released 4.4.2 last week and then pulled it off a few days later due to an unexpected bug.

Well we are now glad to let customers know that 4.4.3 is released and customers can finally get their hands on those great new features!

More enhancements to JQL

Enhancements were introduced in JIRA 4.4.0 that allowed you to search the history of an issue's Assignee and Reporter fields. In JIRA 4.4.3 we are adding to that list Fix Version and a new "CHANGED" operator. This new operator can accept the optional predicates "FROM", "TO", "ON", "DURING", "BEFORE", "AFTER" and "BY". The "CHANGED" operator can be used on the StatusAssigneePriorityReporterResolution and Fix Version fields.

Let me use it now

You can read all about JIRA 4.4.3 at our release notes and as usual JIRA 4.4.3 is free to all customers with active JIRA software maintenance. Download JIRA 4.4.3 here.

Updated Post - Oct 19

JIRA 4.4.3 has been released with a fix and all the great features in 4.4.2.

Original Warning - Oct 13

Due to an unexpected bug, we've had to hold the JIRA 4.4.2 release. As a result, GreenHopper 5.8 is not available at the moment.

We are working hard to get the bug JRA-25914 fixed as soon as possible and will keep this post updated. There is currently a workaround posted in JRA-25914 for this issue. Please contact Atlassian Support with any questions.

As we told you last time in 4.4.1, the JIRA team is hard at work building awesome features and because they are so awesome we couldn't wait for the next major release to get them into your hands. So in JIRA 4.4.2 we bring you:

At the release of Bamboo 3.4 (December 2011), we are ending support for the following platforms:

  • MySQL 5.0
  • Oracle 10g

We have made these decisions to reduce the testing time required for each release and to help us to deliver market-driven features faster. You can stay on older versions of Bamboo to remain on your existing databases. However, from the next major release of Bamboo, Atlassian will no longer fix bugs affecting MySQL 5.0 or Oracle 10g. We are committed to helping our customers understand this decision and to assist you in migrating to a later version of these databases, if needed.

For more details about the announcement, please see End of Support Announcements for Bamboo.

At the next major release of FishEye (January 2012), we are ending support for the following platforms:

  • PostgreSQL 8.0 and 8.1
