Problem

Upgrading Confluence fails.

The following appears in the atlassian-confluence.log or appears in a message box when accessing Confluence:

2012-04-19 19:47:40,703 ERROR [main] [atlassian.confluence.upgrade.UpgradeLauncherServletContextListener] contextInitialized 1:
Cannot proceed with upgrade. Your current license does not entitle you to upgrade to this version of Confluence because it is now outside of its support period.
If you wish to renew it, please contact sales@atlassian.com. If you have a new license, please enter it on this page and restart.

Cause

The license associated with your Confluence instance has expired or is not a compatible with the version of Confluence you are upgrading to.

Confluence had a license format change post 3.0. If you are not upgrading from a pre 3.0 to a post 3.0 Confluence you are not affected by this issue

Resolution

  1. Login to My.Atlassian.com and change your license.

    tip/resting Created with Sketch.

If you are no longer under contract, please contact our Customer Advocates to purchase an extension on your license.

  2. Select the appropriate Confluence license to expand its details
  3. In the 'info' note below your license on the right-hand side of the page, click the ' update your license key ' link to update the license from Pre 3.0 to Post 3.0
  4. Copy the new license and visit the URL below.

    http://<confluence_base_url>/fixonly/fixlicense.action

Replace <confluence_base_url> with the base URL for your Confluence instance

The prompts on this page will take you through using your new license. You will then be required to restart Confluence to complete the fix.
