The Recently Updated Dashboard macro displays a list of the most recently changed content within Confluence. It is similar to the Recently Updated macro but is intended for use on the Confluence dashboard.

Using the Recently Updated Dashboard macro

To add the Recently Updated Dashboard macro to a page:

  1. In the Confluence editor, choose Insert > Other Macros
  2. Find and select the required macro

Speeding up macro entry with autocomplete: Type { and the beginning of the macro name, to see a list of suggested macros. Details are in Using Autocomplete.

To edit an existing macro: Click the macro placeholder and choose Edit. A macro dialog window will open, where you can edit the parameters of the macro.

Parameters

Parameters are options that you can set to control the content or format of the macro output. Where the parameter name used in Confluence storage format or wikimarkup is different to the label used in the macro browser, it will be listed below in brackets (example).

    Hi,

I noticed a minor bug in the {recently-updated-dashboard} macro. Steps to reproduce:

    • A page is changed and a comment for this change has been provided.
    • The comment contains words with hyphens, e. g. "FTP-Passwort". Compound words with hyphens are quite common in german.
    • In the Dashboard's recently updated section, the hyphens in the change comment are deleted: Instead of "FTP-Passwort", only "FTPPasswort" is shown. For some words, this looks very odd.

--> It would be nice if these hyphens would be preserved in the Dashboard.

    1. Hi there,

Thanks for reporting, I have updated CONF-10864 to reflect this.

      Cheers,
      Azwandi

  2. Hello -- one option that my organization has always wanted: the inclusion of the space name along with page title, user's name and time of update.  That seems like such an obvious thing to include.  Any plans for that?

    1. Hi,

You can raise an improvement request regarding your query to Atlassian's JIRA:

      Cheers,

    2. "one option that my organization has always wanted: the inclusion of the space name along with page title, user's name and time of update." All of these are included in the

recently-updated Macro in our confluence 3.1, but when I use the recently-updated-dashboard Macro I loose the space names.
Now, this would not be a big deal and I would only use the [recently-updated]

Macro, but the [recently-updated-dashboard] Macro has a "Show More" (green "+" sign) portion, which allows users to see older pages/news/blogposts.

I use [recently-updated:max=10|type=page,news,comment], so you can see if someone wanted to older posts they could use the "Show More" option.  However, the reason I use a max=10 is to save space, the page is projected to the home page of our SharePoint site using the SharePoint Connector.  The recently-updated-dashboard Macro has two problems, the first stated above, and the second is, the"Show More" does not work in the SharePoint webpart.

I can't seem to get any mail posts to show up when they are picked up from an inbox for the space...

    1. Hello, there. Would you mind to clarify more on this issue? This macro should be able to display mail items, especially when you specify the types as mail. For example:

This is a great new feature, thanks.

Is there a way to show Recently Updated content for just the My Spaces - i.e. those you set as your favourites, both global and personal?

    1. Hi,

Is there a way to show Recently Updated content for just the My Spaces - i.e. those you set as your favourites, both global and personal?

As far as I know, the feature requested is not available yet. You might want to raise an featue/improvement request in JIRA:

The only way I can think of, is to supply the space key manually to the Recently Updated dashboard macro. Example:

      Hope that helps,
      Best rgds,
      Zed

      1. I guess another way would be to build a feed from your favourite spaces, using the RSS Feed Builder (available at the bottom of the Confluence dashboard) and then to display the feed on the wiki page via the RSS Feed macro. I have not tried it myself, but it looks as if it should work.

        1. Have you already considered using the recently-updated macro instead of the recently-updated-dashboard macro? The former provides much more flexible space selection options.

    2. Anonymous

This will work as you descrbie if you use this macro along with the spaces macro. When the spaces macro is set to "My", recently-updated-dashboard automatically filters as well. I believe the other answers are correct when the spaces macro is not in use.

Bug: when the profile pictures are disabled, the brackets which should contain space labels aren't filled. Please watch http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-16196 if affected.

Hi, I have no option of a Macro Browser icon on my editor toolbar and am trying to insert a recently updated box on the PSI India page. Is it a matter of page restrictions or is there a way around this?

    1. Hi,

I have no option of a Macro Browse

Which Confluence version are you using? As far as I know the macro browser is only available in Confluence 3.0 and above.

Is it a matter of page restrictions or is there a way around this?

As far as I know, there is no specific permission for macro browser. Could you please try to insert the following code using wiki markup editting mode and see if the macro is show:

      Best rgds,

    Hi,

Was just wondering if it would be possible to specify the spaces we do not want to display the recently updated content from. We would like to turn this off for our Sandpit (trial area for new users), but are not very keen on having to update the list of spaces when ever we add a new space.

    Thanks in advance, Helena

    1. Hi Helena,

As far as I know, this feature is not currently available in Confluence. However, I have found a similar improvement request. Please add yourself as a watcher, vote for this improvement and add your own comments to this improvement request. For further details on how we include new features and improvements, you might want to read this page

    Hi Confluence-Users,

we also have problems with the recently update macro:

When we use the recently-updated dashboard macro without the profile picture, we can see the current changes. use the recently-updated dashboard macro with the profile picture, the macro will shows older changes (in our case from dezember 2009). But we allready made changes in january 2010.

(here our macro code for both cases:

    recently-updated-dashboard:spaces=*
    recently-updated-dashboard:spaces=|showProfilePic=true*

Even if we use the macro recently-updated - same behavior.

    recently-updated:spaces=*
    recently-updated:spaces=|showProfilePic=true*

Please help by telling me hints or suggestions.

    Thanks...

    Greetings from germany, Ben

    1. Hi Ben,

You might want to try to rebuild Indices from scratch for your instance and see if that helps. To learn more on rebuild index from scratch please refer to this documentation:

      Hope that helps.
      Best rgds,
      Zed

Hi Zed and thank you for your reply.

We solved allready the problem. Our Server-Administrator installed VMWare Tools and since that the problem comes up. We're not 100% sure if this was really our problem. So we made some optimisations at the vm memory-management and restart our confluence instance.

    Now it works fine :)

  10. Hi There,

I am wondering if it is possible to remove the user information on the recently updated list on the Dashboard.  I have tried using simply the recently updated macro and then selecting the sidebar theme.  This, however, then removes the formatting at the top that identifies that area of the page as the recently updated items.

The approach doesn't really matter to me, so long as I can get simply the normal information for all spaces EXCEPT for the user that is responsible for it.  This may seem like a strange request,  but our confluence serves internal and external parties and we don't necessarily want to broadcast that sort of thing.

    Cheers,

    Justin

    1. Hi Justin,

Yes, this is possible. Let's just use the default recently-updated-dashboard macro for this. However, we need to remove the profile picture from being shown. You can do this by editing the Global layout which you can access at Dashboard > Administration > Look and Feel > Layouts > Global Layout > Create Custom. Find for the following line:

and change it to the following:

However, you can still view the author of the contents. The easiest way I can think of is to hide it using JavaScript. If you are fine with this, you can edit the global stylesheet which you can access at Dashboard > Administration > Look and Feel > Stylesheet and add the following code:

Save the layout and check the dashboard now. Hope this helps (smile)

      Cheers
      JSashi

      1. Thank you, JShashi!  That seems to have worked just fine.  Cheers.

  11. Is there anyway to both display the comment text but not display 15 comments? I'm stuck, if I use recently updated I can specify the number of items, but not get the text preview, but if I use recently updated dashboard, I get the comments but too big for the page.

    1. Hi Ted

but if I use recently updated dashboard, I get the comments but too big for the page.

You might want to specify the width for the width for the recently updated dashboard.

      Hope that helps,
      Zed

  12. Is there a way to specify how far back the recently-updated-dashboard macro considers 'recent'? We have just upgraded our wiki at http://wiki.list.org/ to confluence 3.2 (from 2.8?), and now recently-updated-dashboard seems to show only changes in the last day or two. Is there a way to make this longer, or is this possibly some glitch in our installation?

It appears that this was just a temporary condition after the upgrade. Recently Updated is now working as before on our wiki.

  13. Anonymous

Is there a way to constrain the recently-updated macro to display changes to only the current page and it's descendants instead of the entire space?

    1. Hi,

As far as I know the feature requested is not available yet. I do agree that this feature will be useful. Feel free to raise a feature request in JIRA:

      Best rgds,
      Zed

  14. We've recently updated to 3.2 and notice the recently updated dashboard is not updating. Not sure if this is an indexing bug or by design.  Prior to upgrading it updated throughout the day.

    1. Hi Derek, sorry if this comes in a little too late. Usually, this can be fixed by rebuilding the content indices via Confluence Admin > Content Indexing or, even better, Rebuild the Content Indices from Scratch. If that still does not help, raise a ticket with us and attach a copy of atlassian-confluence.log.

    Hello,

recently-updated-dashboard macro still displays pages which were edited with "minor change" option specified.

Is this a bug or is this behavior by design ?

    1. Hi, this behaviour is by-design. The "minor change" option is meant for sending out notifications to watchers only. You may wish to vote for this feature request to change this behaviour.

  16. Hi,

Is there a way not to show attached images in the recently updated macro? Seems redundant to me to have them separate when they are also in the page that is listed.

    Thanks!

    David

    1. Hello David,

In that case, how about excluding attachments from the content type? For instance:

      Cheers,
      Azwandi

      1. Hi Azwandi,

        That seems to work.

        Thanks!

        David

  17. Hi,
What would be the code for excluding attachments as well as including profile pics?

    I've tried the following:

But it doesn't seem to work

    Thanks!
    David

    1. Hi David,

      It should be like this:

      {recently-updated-dashboard:showProfilePic=true|types=page,blogpost,spacedesc,comment,mail,userinfo}

      Hope that helps (smile)

      Cheers,

Does anyone else have issues with this macro where setting "showProfilePicture" to true removes the text from the links?...

If so, have anyone found a solution?

    1. I have the same problem after I upgraded Confluence to 3.4.1

  19. Anonymous

    Hello

Is there any possibility to edit the content on the DASHBOARD also? I am interested in editing some content on the Dashboard page and not other pages as mentioned here.

    thank you (smile)

    Hi,

I have come across a strange issue. The recently-updated macros returns No results found if the Space is Private for a Group & Anonymous View Access is not given. Seems that the rendering of macros checks for permissions. Since I was trying to render the contents without logging to Confluence I came across this issue.

It seems that in the class RecentlyChangedContentMacro line no 81 as mentioned below doesnt return any result if No Authenticated User / Anonymous View Permission is not given.

    Page<SearchResult> pageOfResults = recentUpdatesManager.find(queryParams, paginationParams);

Is this necessary to return results after checking VIEW permissions ? Because at the Page Level it is already applied for different user and user groups ?

    Hi,

I would like to know if i can view the comments given in the recently added attachments using the recently-updated-dashboard macro..

    1. Anonymous

There ist aleady a request for improvment – go ahead and vote for it... (wink)

  22. Anonymous

I have been butting my head on this one. As a non-programmer I am thinking that these macros would work so much better and easier as well as fix most odf the issues on this page if they just had a simple exclude function.

The way it is now, it is necessary to declare ALL the spaces but leave out the one(s) you don't want if one wants to be selective.

An example above also gives a method to exclude "types" like "attachments" by listing everything else.

It is of course equally ridiculous to list all the "Labels" except those not required.

So much easier to exclude one or two items but somehow this logic remains incomprehensible to the developers :(

I am also fearing the suggestion to submit a "Feature request" since viewing this http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-1746

  23. Hi

Is the any inverse recently-updated ? I would like to get a list of pages not updated in the last X months. Or the possibility to mark pages to be updated again in XX days.

  24. Anonymous

The recently-updated macro has the ability to exclude spaces, but not the recently-updated-dashboard macro?

Nice post. u have really used very simple language in this block. Thanks for sharing. Hope it will be resolved soon.

  26. Can this Macros retrieve the whole comment such as the actions inside the comment box. (Edit, Move, Reply, Comment) I want those action to stay with the comments. If possible, can you share this information. Thanks.

For some reason the pages that are labeled aren't being pulled into the macro when it is being specified:

    {recently-updated-dashboard:space=Example|showProfilePic=true|labels=testlabel|types=comment}

No comments are being shown by this.  It is as if labels has been disabled.  There definitely is one page labeled "testlabel".

    1. Is the space title called Example? try to say label instead of labels because you are only using one label, if not, then add another label to the page and try that. Hope that helps. Also, the same for types.

    2. Anonymous

I'm having the same problem.  When labels are used no comments are list, but when the label restriction is removed, the comments show up.  Could this be because you can't add labels to comments??

      1. Anonymous

You can ignore the previous comment; it was in reference to the Recently Update Macro, not the Recently Updated Dashboard macro.

  28. Is it possible for users to specify within their document that it does not show up on the recently updated plugin, specifically dashboard version. I'd like some privacy around the work i'm working on.

EDIT: Ah, strike that, I think i've discovered that the "restrictions" option in the edit page is adhered to by the plugin. As long as its applied the first time you save the page, that was my mistake.

EDIT: Actually i was wrong, it still posts the fact i've changed my content. I've left the edit as a possible solution, it would be help full if the restriction setting stopped updates being broadcast on the recently changed. Otherwise an ignore tag option.

  29. Hi I have two questions:

    1) I don't want recent updates appearing on my dashboard. How can I remove this feature from the dashboard?

    2) I also don't want the favorites tag. How can I remove it from the dashboard?

  30. Anonymous

How can I had my users profile pic show up in the dashboard news list?

  31. I want to edit some parameter for the dashboard-macro. Where is the place to do so? Why this is not described here?

However. Please could someone spot me the relevant path for the macro? (Using 4.0)

EDIT: As someone mentioned in 2010. I want to change the parameter on the dashboard. Not on other pages.

  32. I just spun up a new instance of Confluence OnDemand and I'm getting this error on the dashboard:

    Unknown macro: {recently-updated-dashboard}

Why is it showing up and how do I fix it?

    1. Hi Alex, sounds like something is not right in your new instance. Contact Support and they'll help troubleshoot and fix whatever is going on.

  33. Hi (again) - is there a way of EXCLUDING a user from this report? Use example: I update many pages and ideally would like my name not to show, as this feature is really good to show who is doing what and what new content has been added (rather than just the recently updated macro) but when there are a dozen edits all by me it kind of defeats the purpose. Any thoughts?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Helen, sorry i'm not aware of a way to do this.  The only workaround I can think of would be to specify all other users (that are not you) in the Users parameter.  This might work if you only have a small instance with 20 or so people, but I doubt would be feasible for anything much bigger than that.

      1. HI Rachel, thanks for such a prompt reply. Unfortunately we have too many users for that to be feasible but thanks for the suggestion.

  34. Hi!

Would you please advise on possible reasons why the updates for some pages are not shown on the dashboard (All Updates tab), though there are no restrictions set up?

Also, I have added a new space and a few child pages. Updates on them are not shown too.

I have been trying to find the answer, but no success so far.

Please point me to the right thread or help solve the issue.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Julia,

My best advice would be to contact our support team, as they'll be able to ask more detailed questions about the pages and your Confluence setup.

  35. Hello, we came across what we think is a bug. If we add this macro to a page and add user(s), even if it's only one, when the page loads the 'All Updates' tab is empty. However, if we click one of the other tabs for the macro and then click back to All Updates then everything works as expected and all activity shows.

The one exception I found playing around with the macro is if the user I added in the macro has commented or edited any page I created. Then only that activity will show up under All Updates on page load. Switching the tab and going back to All Updates will show everything for the user(s).

    Is this a known bug?

    1. Hi Brett,

I was able to replicate the behaviour, so it definitely looks like a bug. The best way to raise these is to click the Report a Bug button at the bottom of every page in this space, which will allow you to raise an issue with us directly. I've raised this one for you, though.

CONF-36763 - Recently Updated Dashboard macro returns inconsistent results Open

You can comment to add your experience and watch the issue to track any progress.

      1. Thanks for looking into this and setting up the issue. I will comment my experience out there.
