What you need to get it up and running

Insight Discovery requires both Jira Service Management and Insight to function. Please read the system requirements before installing Insight Discovery.

Installing and licensing the Insight Discovery app

Jira Service Management Cloud

Cloud customers can directly download the latest version of the Discovery Tool here: Discovery_3.0.3.1.zip

Jira Service Management Data Center

For Data Center customers, Insight Discovery has two parts: the Discovery app that you download from the Atlassian Marketplace, and the Discovery Tool that runs locally on your system.

  • The latest version of the Insight Discovery app for Jira Data Center can be downloaded from Atlassian Marketplace.

  • The latest version of the Discovery Tool can also be downloaded right here: Discovery_3.0.3.1.zip

Downloading the Insight Discovery Tool at Jira Data Center

Now, we must download the Insight Discovery Tool that runs locally on your system.

Navigate to Manage Apps > INSIGHT DISCOVERY > Discovery Download and download the tool from the link on the page.

After downloading, extract the Discovery Tool ZIP into the desired directory. Please note that Insight Discovery Tool must be able to both read and write data within this directory.

Navigate to the Discovery directory and type "discovery.exe -s" to access the Insight Discovery Tool's setup mode.

You will be prompted to create and enter a password. Your password must contain at least 8 characters including at least one uppercase, one lowercase, one numeric and one non-alphanumeric (symbol) character.

Setting up Insight synchronization

You need to setup Insight in order to import data from Discovery. Read about how to setup up Insight here

The first import

The initial import will take much more time than the recurring imports, that's why we recommend the following procedure:

  1. Choose not to include Applications, Application Services and Patches in the first import. Insight will then import only the hosts and basic corresponding data, which should make the first import faster. You can configure the import in Insight to include or exclude Applications and Patches. The scanning will still be performed in full scale.
  2. After the first import has completed, select to include Applications in the second import
  3. After the second import has completed, select to include also Applications Services in the third import
  4. After the third import has completed, select to include also Patches in the coming imports

This procedure makes it quicker to import large amounts of data.
