JIRA lets you change the columns of the table of search results for any search results displayed using the List view (as opposed to the Detail View). Click Columns at top right of the issue table to open the column configuration dialog, shown below.

Column Configuration Dialog

This displays the list of the columns used in the current table of results. Choose the columns you want with checkboxes and click Done to finish. Notice that the Filter option is greyed out, this is because the the issue table results are not coming from a filter. See Changing the column configuration for your own filters for an example of using this dialog to set the displayed columns for your own filters.

Sorting and rearranging columns

  • To sort issues, just click on a column header.
  • To rearrange the column layout, press and hold the mouse button to enter "column drag mode."

My Defaults, Filter, and System

If the currently selected button is My Defaults, this indicates that the columns you are seeing are from your user account preferences. Filter is an available option whenever the issue search results come from a saved filter. If you are a JIRA Admin, you will also see the System tab, where you can change the columns for all users who have not set their own defaults.

JIRA administrators can configure the columns that appear in the Issue Navigator for all users that do not have personal column filters defined. When administrators are configuring default columns, their permissions are ignored, so that they can add a project-specific custom field from a project that they do not have permissions to browse. The field would never be actually shown to users that do not have permissions to see it.

JIRA administrators can also select which views are available in the JIRA system, as views are configurable via plugins.

  1. I do not find the "Select List" fields in the "Add new column" drop-down-box!?!?!

(The "Multi Select" fields could be selected.)

How to get a Select List field into the navigator view?

    Thanks & BR,  Markus

    1. Hi Markus,

The field will need to have a Search Template specified (please see Adding a Custom Field).

If a Search Template has already been specified, and you are still not able to add the field to the Issue Navigator, can you please contact http://support.atlassian.com ?

      Many thanks,
      Rosie

  2. Hello Rosie,

For the "Select" List" fields the "Select List Searcher" IS enabled.

(Multi List" fields with "Multi Select Searcher" works OK.)

    Problem filed as JSP-69129.

    BR,
    Markus

      1. Problem is ... hmmm ... gone (not really solved!)

Rosie, maybe you could add the results/tips/workaround from support ticket JSP-69129 to this page. Thanks!

        Regards,
        Markus

  3. How do I add issue type as a column? Can't find it in the list

    1. Hi Rikard,

The 'Issue Type' column should already be present/added by default at the far left of the 'Re-order Columns' section (entitled 'T' as shown in the screenshot above), which means that you won't find the 'Issue Type' item in the 'Add New Column' dropdown menu.

If you remove the 'Issue Type' column by clicking on its bin icon, then the 'Issue Type' item will become available in the 'Add New Column' dropdown menu.

      Cheers,

      Giles.

  4. yes, ofcourse, my bad. Maybe the reason i didn't see it at first was the fact it was only an icon. I found another issue where there has been requests to change the display of that column from icon to text, is that possible? The issue I found wasn't resolved, but also very old...

  5. It is possible to configure an issue navigator per project?

  6. The issue navigator is WAY too cumbersome to handle. I would like to request that the Issue Navigator could be changed on the fly by any user, and that the columns that appear are tailored to individual user's preferences. Visualization of data should be user-customizable.

  7. Can I get my customized columns to appear on the Dashboard?  I built a Filter which contains the columns that I want to see, but they show up on the Dashboard in alphabetical order.  When I go to Issue Navigator, it has the same filter name as the header of the page, and it lets me move the columns around the way I want them.  But when I go back to the Dashboard, my filter still has the old column configuration.  I don't see a way to either change the column order in a filter or display the Issue Navigator as a pane in the Dashboard.  (I am a user, not an administrator).

  8. Hello Cathy,

please check the "Column Order Gadget Plugin" (available from Atlassian's Marketplace). This will solve your question.

    Best Regards, Markus

  9. Is it possible to define which columns are displayed depending on the filter being used?  We have several filters that query the same issue type, but we need to be able to select different fields for each filter.

I really should have the possibility to specify "list view" as default view for a filter.

On this page it says: "JIRA administrators can also select which views are available in the JIRA system, as views are configurable via plugins."

I'm running OnDemand, so I can't find any plugin solving this...

This feature is also asked by others here:

Is is possible to configure displayed columns per filters saved ?

    1. Yes, by editing the individual saved filter
