Hey there! This page is no longer being maintained, but we've created some new and improved resources to replace it. Head on over to our Quickstart site to check them out.

To help you get up and running quickly, we've compiled some easy instructions for configuring and using JIRA Hosted.

On this page:

Settings to Configure

There are a few JIRA settings that you should enable right out of the box to get the most from your evaluation.

If you want to be able to log the amount of time you spend working on issues, you need to first do the following:

  1. Click 'Administration' in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click 'Time Tracking' (under 'Global Settings') in the left navigation column.
  3. In the 'Hours Per Day' field, enter the number of hours in your organisation's working day (e.g. 8).
  4. In the 'Days Per Week' field, enter the number of days in your organisation's working week (e.g. 5).
  5. Leave the 'Time Format' as 'pretty'.
  6. Change the 'Default Unit' to 'hour'.
  7. Click the 'Activate' button.

For more about configuring time-tracking, please see the documentation.

If you want to be able to split up a 'parent' issue into a number of sub-tasks which can be assigned and tracked separately, you need to first do the following:

  1. Click 'Administration' in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click 'Sub-Tasks' (under 'Global Settings') in the left navigation column.
  3. Click the 'Enable' link.

For more about configuring sub-tasks, please see the documentation.

Importing Existing Content

Bugzilla, Mantis, FogBugz and CSV

JIRA ships with the JIRA Importers Plugin pre-installed, providing you with a smooth transition from the tools listed below (note the versions supported).

Other Tools

For data migrations from other tools, other methods are available, but will be difficult to perform in a hosted instance, and require you to file a support ticket like you would to have a plugin installed.

If you wish to pursue these methods, we recommend performing the migration in a free download trial of JIRA on your own machine, then backing up your instance and restoring that backup in your hosted instance. In order to restore this backup, you will need to file a support ticket to have the file uploaded to your instance, as described above.
